Truth be told, Aurum knew that he wasn't a spectacular cook. That wasn't to say that he was terrible at it, or anything. No, he was basically just... about average. He had learned how to make a couple of recipes in order to serve them at the tavern, or in order to feed himself and his children something that wasn't raw, but that was mainly just what he thought of cooking as – a tool. He knew some people loved cooking and baking, and practically did both religiously, but he just wasn't that kind of male. Maybe it was just because he had always been so busy with his other duties, or maybe just because he had plenty of other hobbies, but he mainly tended to see cooking as a necessity, rather than an enjoyable little activity. He couldn't help but wonder if maybe someone who really and truly loved cooking would be better qualified to host such a lesson, but he pushed that aside for the moment. After all, no one else had been assigned this task. It had been him, and he was going to see it through, even if it meant he had to struggle through it a bit.

After a morning spent gathering ingredients from various buildings and outdoor sources, Aurum finally felt as though he had everything he needed for what he was going to demonstrate – how to make a chocolate cake. Sure, technically this was baking and not cooking, but he figured Clony would appreciate the cake nonetheless, and it was something he had been interested in doing for a while. He had always had a bit of a sweet tooth, and the idea of making a big cake for everyone while also teaching them something they could use in the future... well, it was definitely appealing. So, the lion had dragged out a long table in front of his small home within Elysium, and had set up everything they would need on it. The ingredients, various bowls and utensils, a whisk... the only thing he hadn't dragged out was the means of cooking it, since he wasn't particularly intent on dragging an old gas oven out of his home. Once everything was set up, Aurum had taken up residence in his teaching spot just behind the table, resting his front limbs on it as he raised his voice to call out, "Anybody who wants to learn how to bake a chocolate cake, come over here! I'm gonna give a step by step lesson and demonstration." The actual cooking in the oven parts would obviously be pretty boring and straightforward, but he didn't really think he needed to teach anything there.

    CLONY
[ age mover of the oblivions ]

Cooking had been something Clony hadn’t ever done. They had knowledge about its existence and about what it could entail. The exact points were lost to them, but they supposed it didn’t matter much. They were new to the whole concept of eating. Their small mouth could barely munch down on fruits, their chosen appetite. They’d never done much preparation for a meal other than pulling it into smaller bites and carefully munching away. A mouth felt strange, and they didn’t even use such to talk with. But they did know what cooking was. This task was the perfect roundabout way to learn what it was!

“Mighty fine table,“ Clony chirps with a wave of a wing. They hopped over, eyeing the materials with their gleaming white eyes. They narrowed with brief suspicion, before softly sniffing. “Chocolate cake, you said? Can’t say I’ve heard of it before,” they then comment, tail slowly swinging behind them in thought. Cake, yes. One of their em other selves happened to know someone obsessed with cake. Chocolate on the other hand was lost to them. “What’re all those things for? That one looks like a bunch of wires,“ Clony comments, a talon pointing to the whisk while their head curiously tips to the side.

Cooking was more of a foreign concept to Siborno seeing as the hybrid normally ate everything raw, sure, he was certain that everything tasted a lot better cooked but he didn't have powers or the right tools to make a fire whenever he wanted to on the spot. Regardless of his lack of knowledge about cooking, the large brute would walk over in slow steps and couldn't help but feel a frown tug at his lips. A chocolate cake? He didn't even know what a cake was to begin with but he bit down on his tongue deciding against asking what it was since they didn't want to come off as more idiotic than they already seemed. The thought made the smilodon hybrid frustrated though he'd offer a now and faint smile to Aurum before it faded away, his gaze concentrated on what was in front of him. He supposed that he would be learning how to bake a cake... Whatever that was.  [glow=COLOR,1,400] ━ ✧*:・゚[/glow]

[font=trebuchet ms]Chocolate cake was Aurum's recipe of choice, apparently- Rin wouldn't have assumed he was a particular fan of cake, but then again, he might have just chosen it for the relative simplicity of mixing ingredients together. Rin had no clear memories of ever eating cake, let alone making it, but then it was possible long-past events had been lost along the way.

Approaching shortly after Clony and Siborno, Rin gave a nod to the both of them. Looking more closely at Siborno, she twitched her ears- he didn't seem to be scratching anymore, and Aurum appeared to have returned to normal as well, so the peppermint treatment had probably worked. That much was a relief. They had enough going on without having to worry about a flea outbreak.

Turning back to Aurum, Rin sat down and waited for further instruction.

Once a decently sized trio of others had arrived to attend his lesson, Aurum found himself perking up a little, oddly enthusiastic. Although the lion had never had a particular passion for cooking, he did like teaching others new things, so this was really right up his alley. Thankfully, Clony was the type of creature to have little to no filter at all, which meant that they would ask all the questions that everyone else was too afraid of looking foolish for – this was particularly a good thing for Sib, since the hybrid seemed to stay shut up a lot of the time in an effort to not look "stupid." Aurum found himself nodding to the bat creature first, explaining as he gestured at the ingredients spread out in front of him, "Well... cake is a sweet food that's made of flour, sugar, and some other ingredients. I believe it was originally made as a variation of bread, but there are some very elaborate cakes nowadays... chocolate is just a sweet that's going to be the base of the flavor for the cake." After that little explanation, the male turned his one eyed gaze down to the whisk, a soft chuckle leaving him, "And that is a whisk. It technically is a bunch of wires, all connected to a handle. It's better for mixing ingredients than just your paws."

With those explanations out of the way, it was time to launch into the actual lesson, and the angel found himself at a bit of a loss at how to start. Eventually, he just rolled his shoulders, rumbling softly, "I suppose the first thing we'll go over is the ingredients. That way you'll all know what you'll need to make your own version of this." As he continued, he carefully moved his paw over each ingredient as he pointed it out, seeming to fall into a rhythm, "Now... the majority of this stuff is old human cooking supplies, so you might have to do some searching to find some of your own. For example, sugar, flour, baking powder and soda, cocoa powder, salt, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract are all human ingredients. Thankfully, they're all fairly common around any old run down human home, since baking was a common hobby... at least from the books I've read. Meanwhile, eggs, milk, and water are all ingredients that can be gotten more naturally, through chickens, cows, and any source of water... although you'll want it to be fresh. I doubt salty water would taste very good in any of this. You guys with me so far?" He glanced up at them questioningly, a little sheepish smile on his muzzle. He wanted to make sure that he did this right, and didn't end up with a bunch of confused students by the end.

    CLONY
[ age mover of the oblivions ]

They couldn't say they remembered one of themselves ever having cooked before. One of their selves sometimes tried to make tea for their sock cult (and that statement even left Clony befuddled), another lived with someone utterly obsessed with cake, and another once said that cake and baking had something to do with lightbulbs fitting into someone's mouth, but could not be pulled free. Their own claws had never mixed or dived into the world of mixing together ingredients and hoping something edible came out, or eating lightbulbs for that matter. Curiosity filled the bat, and it kept their attention focused. Eyes narrowed with focus, tail and wings and entire form still from where they normally were hopping around and unable to keep themself still. An explanation of the whisk was gifted to them, and they felt mighty proud when their guess was somewhat correct. Their head raised with brief joy, but they could not allow for such to deter them from learning. Maybe baking would be the secret key to gifting people the joys of technology, the good kinds of it.

Ingredients. There was a lot of them. Clony was made swifty aware that they should have likely brought a notepad with them. They didn't have another one of themselves here to send off to fetch such a thing, and they didn't want to miss any crucial details. Hopefully the information retained would be just that - stuck within their mind and ready to be recalled on a moment's notice. "Why wouldn't saltwater work? Isn't that just gonna add more flavor?" They chatter. They'd never actually interacted with saltwater until they'd arrived in Elysium. Their ears lowered, turning the word over in their mind. Water that was salty, water that had salt added to them? Why did water need flavor? They were lost on the ideas of whatever a 'chikenkows' was as well. Quite a lengthy word, or perhaps two with the pause in the middle. Something the bat could look into later. "I thought soda was a drink. Are we gonna fill the cake with soda? Chocolate soda? Is it gonna be like one of those volcano cake things?" They happily begin to chatter, a talon absently tapping beneath them with a need for some form of movement to be met.
