Before registering a linked character account for your character, there are a few things to keep in mind...

Beast of Beyond's passage of time is based on real life and has a few specifications

• Timeline: Since the passage of time is based on real time, all dates match up in roleplay. One real day = one in-character day for your character.
• Timezone: BoB is based on GMT-4, but date is more important than time to many users. Describing the time of day in your thread helps with this.
• Liquid time: Our RP allows for liquid time where your character can be roleplayed in multiple threads per day. Inconsistent posts, such as a major event posted in a previous thread, may need to be adjusted or voided, but is mostly excused. Just make sure threads that occur AFTER that event's post are not disregarded.
• Aging: Aging happens in real time, but children are more than welcome to be aged up to adolescence to avoid the awkward child phase.

Beasts of Beyond allows for a wide scope of custom characters to be accepted. All realistic animals are accepted, but mythical, hybrid, and extinct creatures are sold in the shop for gems. Along with that, all characters are allowed to have animal-based mutations, such as horns, gills, or vampirism, or recolored body parts with no purchase necessary. Other mutations and powers can be purchased in the shop. Along with this, characters are able to have accessories and clothing pieces that can be reasonably crafted or found in the territory. That said, when creating a character, there are a few aspects to consider:

• Name
• Sex/Gender
• Age
• Species
• Appearance
• Personality
• Mutations / Powers

If you want to adopt a pre-made character or a character with relations, you can head to the Adoption Agency to see available characters.

From there, it is up to you whether you want to put your characters information on their profile after creating an account or post a public biography. Neither is required, but highly encouraged.

After creating a master account, you can begin creating character accounts.

• Step 1: Head to your user settings. This is found next your avatar in the header.
• Step 2: Scroll down to 'Miscellaneous' and click on 'Create New Character.'
• Step 3: Pick a username (preferably your character's name) and password for your account.
• Step 4: Select 'Character' from the 'Account Type' section. This will give you access to character-exclusive profile fields.
• Step 5: Specify your character's gender and pronouns.
• Step 6: Submit your character!
• Step 7: To switch over to your character's account, head up to where you found 'User Settings' previously and press 'Attached Accounts.' A dropdown should pop up with your character's username. Clicking that will switch you to their account. You can also switch back to your main account the same way.

You do not need to fill out an application or audition to start posting. Just make an account and write away!

There are a few thread prefixes to use:

• Open: This thread is open to all characters!
• Private: Only certain characters specified by the poster can reply here. All roleplayers involved need to agree to a private thread beforehand.
• One-shot: A post made by a roleplayer that is intended to have no replies. This is often done for character development.

A few things to keep in mind:

• Respect: This is important. If someone does not want their character involved in a plot, do not drag them into it. That said, IC actions have IC consqeuences.
• Grammar: We want posts to be readable, so use proper grammar and spelling (no chatspeak). BoB understands that not everyone's first language is English though. It is your duty to make sure your posts are able to be understood by other roleplayers.
• Perspective and tense: Use third person and past tense.
• Word count: It is highly suggested that your posts are at least 250 words, but it is not a strict rule. Providing detail, such as a time of day or a character's movment, will give you length and give other roleplayers context. That said, quality is valued over quantity.
• Post order: BoB does not follow a post order and allows characters to interject as if they were interrupting conversations.
• Characters speaking non-English: If your character speaks in another language, ALWAYS provide a direct translation.
• Bumping: If you are looking for a reply in a thread, you may bump your post up the feed by posting 'bump.' Certain users may be inactive. Check the departures board or Discord's #inactivity-notices channel on our Discord beforehand.
• Character speech: While it is not a requirement, if you want to make your post easier to read, bold or color your character's dialogue!
• Paragraph spacing: Space out your paragraphs with breaks between them to prevent walls of text.

Here on Beasts of Beyond, we use something called 'DIV styling' to spice up our posts. You can change the background, color, and more with this type of modified HTML/CSS combo. To view how to edit your posts this way, view our DIV styling guide for more information. Having a post template is not required, but can add some personality to your post.

You can also save your post style templates and select them from a dropdown or have them default in your post when you post from 'Post Preview' (not 'Quick Reply'). Just head to 'Post Style (Templates)' within your User Settings.

• Step 1: Click 'Create Template.'
• Step 2: Insert a name for your template.
• Step 3: From there, insert your content. '{MESSAGE}' should [u]NOT[/u] be removed, as that is where your text will go while posting. For example, you should put '{MESSAGE}' between your codes like this: [div style=""]{MESSAGE}[/div] OR [b]{MESSAGE}[/b]
• Step 4: You have two checkboxes afterwards. The first is 'Enabled.' Enabling your post style template will show it from a dropdown list upon previewing your post (not in quick reply).
• Step 5: Your other option is 'Default.' By selecting default, your post template will be automatically selected when posting from 'Preview Post.' Along with this, any templates you had as default previously will be REPLACED by this template.
• Step 6: Save your template.
• Step 7: Time to post! When posting, select 'Preview Post.' If you have a default template selected, just type your text in and you're all set. If you do not have a default template set or want to override your default template, select a post style template from the 'Post Template' dropdown and click 'Insert Into Post.'
• Step 8: When you are done typing your post, click 'Post Reply' and you're all set!
