Lethe was actually interested in learning to read? That was... surprising. Not because the girl seemed like the type to dislike reading or shove books away. Rather, the tiny dragon seemed fairly forgetful and absent-minded the majority of the time. So, the thane wouldn't have been surprised if she didn't want to learn merely because she felt she wouldn't be good at it. He found himself glad that she was trying to challenge herself, though. A small smile curled on the canine's muzzle before he spoke, a soft chuckle leaving him, "Well then... I'll be happy to teach you how to read, then. We can start off small, with some easier picture books. While this book in particular is beautiful and a good book for researching, it is also filled with some hard to understand technical jargon." He tapped his yellow paw against the pages, particularly over some of the more heavy language. Things like complicated Latin names, and scientific facts about the various flowers inside. Arvid could understand some of it, but even he had a bit of trouble with certain parts.
When Lethe mentioned bringing plants back, the young scientist's eyes practically lit up, his tail wagging behind him. He said with a pleased hum, nodding his head, "Definitely feel free to bring plants back! Obviously if you're unsure on whether or not a plant is safe, you can bring it to me and I'll tell you. Although... there is one plant you definitely shouldn't touch, and that's poison ivy. I'm sure it's somewhere in that book you've got there, so you can look at the picture and avoid it. It won't kill you, but it'll make you terribly itchy and miserable if you touch it." He had only gone near poison ivy once, and that was out of necessity. One of his poisonous plants had been growing nearby, and he had wanted to grab it no matter what for his concoctions. Unfortunately, that day had ended with him feeling miserable and practically scratching off his skin as a result of brushing up so close to the leaves of three. He didn't want Lethe to go through the same thing, especially since he wasn't sure she wouldn't scrape some scales off.
As others began to rattle off their favorite flowers, the dire wolf found himself hesitating. The obvious answer was one of the flowers he used to make his poisons, but those weren't really his favorite. He just found them to be useful. His favorite, though... well, it might surprise some. Shifting a little on the spot, Arvid offered up quietly, "As for me... my favorite flower is tigridia pavonia, or the tiger flower. I actually like it mostly just because of how it looks... although, it is also one of the rare flowers that you can eat part of without having it taste awful. The bulbs are even a delicacy – they can be roasted and taste like chestnuts." Perhaps, at some point, he could try sharing some roasted bulbs with his fellow wanderers. He'd have to find some tiger flowers first, though.
