Shining was supposed to be out and about on a herb gathering mission. He still had to grow familiar with the territory, learn all the spots and points of interest. This included where plants grew, the formation of the ground and dirt and how it might affect growth, dead-spots... Unfortunately, Shining had gotten distracted again. The nearby waves of the ocean dragged him to the cliffs- particularly the peninsula that jutted out south-west of the Observatory. A single, lone oak tree provided some shade from the summer heat. The feline was currently taking refuge in it, rolled onto his back and peering at the leaves.
He really needed someone to keep him on task. Lessa would more than likely want to take up that job, but she couldn't be available all the time. Shining once had a companion to both keep him company, and assist with his daily duties. A hawk, which Shine had made extraordinary memories with. She had taught him to fly, after all. Gave him advice and wisdom. Thankfully she wasn't feral.
She had met a tragic end. Shine couldn't bring himself to find another companion after that. Couldn't risk another heartbreak, another lost life. But times were changing, and Shining couldn't afford to be alone anymore. Not in his current state- simply too weak to stand on his own. It was in his best interest to find another friend. Fortunately, he didn't have to look far.
A face popped up right over top of him- a bird's beak, with round yellow eyes and a white head. It looked at him for a moment, curiously staring into the feline's gaze. Shining blinked, realizing what was in front of him, and rolled onto his paws. He sat up straight as the bird stood in front of him, cawing at him for attention. He tilted his head and examined it. Reddish body, a forked tail, a fairly long pair of wings with black tips. A female close to adulthood.
"Red kite..." Shining doesn't know where this knowledge came from, or how he was capable of thinking so clearly of it. He peered deeper into the hawk's eyes. It began to click together. "Know you. From the Tribe?" The hawk seemed to nod in response. Shining spread out his wings, turning his head to look at them. "Flew far to find me. Here to help... Good time."
He glanced back. She spread her wings and made a piping noise. "Tabitha. I like that."
