SHOW UP ON TIME | Companion - Shininglight - 07-24-2018

[div style="font-family: constantia; font-size: 13px; text-align: justified; width: 70%; margin: auto;"]
Shining was supposed to be out and about on a herb gathering mission. He still had to grow familiar with the territory, learn all the spots and points of interest. This included where plants grew, the formation of the ground and dirt and how it might affect growth, dead-spots... Unfortunately, Shining had gotten distracted again. The nearby waves of the ocean dragged him to the cliffs- particularly the peninsula that jutted out south-west of the Observatory. A single, lone oak tree provided some shade from the summer heat. The feline was currently taking refuge in it, rolled onto his back and peering at the leaves.

He really needed someone to keep him on task. Lessa would more than likely want to take up that job, but she couldn't be available all the time. Shining once had a companion to both keep him company, and assist with his daily duties. A hawk, which Shine had made extraordinary memories with. She had taught him to fly, after all. Gave him advice and wisdom. Thankfully she wasn't feral.

She had met a tragic end. Shine couldn't bring himself to find another companion after that. Couldn't risk another heartbreak, another lost life. But times were changing, and Shining couldn't afford to be alone anymore. Not in his current state- simply too weak to stand on his own. It was in his best interest to find another friend. Fortunately, he didn't have to look far.

A face popped up right over top of him- a bird's beak, with round yellow eyes and a white head. It looked at him for a moment, curiously staring into the feline's gaze. Shining blinked, realizing what was in front of him, and rolled onto his paws. He sat up straight as the bird stood in front of him, cawing at him for attention. He tilted his head and examined it. Reddish body, a forked tail, a fairly long pair of wings with black tips. A female close to adulthood.

"Red kite..." Shining doesn't know where this knowledge came from, or how he was capable of thinking so clearly of it. He peered deeper into the hawk's eyes. It began to click together. "Know you. From the Tribe?" The hawk seemed to nod in response. Shining spread out his wings, turning his head to look at them. "Flew far to find me. Here to help... Good time."

He glanced back. She spread her wings and made a piping noise. "Tabitha. I like that."

Re: SHOW UP ON TIME | Companion - Suiteheart - 07-24-2018

SUITE
HEART
Suiteheart knew about individuals having creatures as companions, pets. She had never kept one herself, but her wife had a couple of years ago. In those days, Margaery had kept spiders as pets. They were sweet creatures - very sweet despite the bad wrap they had been given. They would sit on Margaery's shoulders or on top of her head. They would spin little, silk webs that seemed to shine in the moonlight. Yes, Suiteheart had loved her wife's little pets. It had been sad to see them die.

These thoughts crossed her mind as she neared Shininglight, who was speaking to a bird. Confusion crossed over her features for a few moments until she realized what must be happening here. When she finally understood, a smile crossed her ivory features. "Who's you new friend, Shine? She's pretty."

Re: SHOW UP ON TIME | Companion - lessa - 07-25-2018

✯ — Though she had spent quite a bit of her life without him, Lessa had a hard time imagining Calum not there.  They'd met at a special ceremony in a previous home. The traditional offering for the hawk was meat.  The marten had offered an olive branch.  She still remembered the long moments of waiting, holding her breath, wondering if maybe no hawk would want to accept her as their partner.  Then he showed up.

The then-shaman had more than needed him at her side.  He became her first student in a way.  The first creature she really taught.  Calum knew the name of nearly every herb she'd ever need and was trained to track down herself, or any other known healer, in emergencies.  Right now however, he probably needed to really get a look at the Ascendants other medics.

Assistant, companion, but also one of her dearest friends.  She was few on those here.

But he also had a knack for trouble and irritation.  The Halo was just waiting for the moment he took off and caused trouble.  So far, nothing today.  The marten had harnessed the medkit and the two had set off. It was more exploration and aimless wandering than actual gathering.

When Calum suddenly took on a burst of speed, Lessa sighed wearily and tailed him at a much slower pace, ear flicking.  When she spotted Shine and Suite she didn't quite understand, until another set of feathers caught her eye.  A red kite.  Interesting.

She gave Calum a look, "... Don't... Be a bad... Influence." Force knew he'd try to be.

Re: SHOW UP ON TIME | Companion - MIAMIHORROR - 07-25-2018

Miami doesn't get this group and their willingness to take in prey animals — then again, kites are predators, aren't they?  The wolf doesn't care; he considers most creatures suitable for lunch, and so to him they're all prey animals.  Like that deer at the border the other day — maybe his policy ought not to be hunt first, ask questions never, but to be fair it's never occurred to him to ask his snacks if they have a name before he tries to kill them.  It's an odd custom, one that he doesn't think he'll ever follow himself.  He supposed they'd all just better hope that he's never the first to greet newbies.

The canine is wandering the rolling plains, in search of nothing in particular.  He's feasted recently, but there's always that hunger that itches just below his skin and pulses through his veins.  In others words: he wouldn't mind if something came along.  His maws part just slightly to taste the warm summer air and Miamihorror catches wind of Ascendants nearby, though he can only place a name to one.  He pauses to mull it over, his tongue running across his teeth, but he never thinks for long.  Large gray paws carry him forth, lazily moving across the dry earth until he halts among the trio with a flick of an ear in greeting.

Miamihorror has rarely known companions — not in this sense, but also not quite in any.  He looks upon the kite with blatant unenthusiasm; maybe he just doesn't get it.  "Guessin' I'm not allowed to make it my next meal?" he asks, completely deadpan.  It's only when a vague smirk touches his lips that it's revealed that he's doesn't speak in full serious — although, to a certain extent, he most certainly does.  The wolf licks his lips and his glances sideways towards Suiteheart who, unlike himself, poses a genuine inquiry.

His new avian friend turned her head to the east, prompting Shine to look up. Suiteheart approached him with a look of curiosity- he had learned to recognize such thoughts in the eyes of others. The Ascendant's gaze was on the bird of prey, and her compliment seemed to make Tabitha stand taller, extending her wings momentarily. "Tribe friend. Distant family," Shine attempted to explain in his broken speech-pattern and cryptic words. It was unclear what he meant by such an explanation. "Good past with them. Know me from stories. Need to visit one day..."

Shining looked aside and past Suiteheart, spotting Lessa nearby. She hadn't approached all the way. Calum was beside the pine marten- he had interacted with her companion in the past. A bit... intrusive and carefree. Tabitha noticed them as well, her stoic eyes taking note of the fellow hawk. Only for a moment, though, before she looked away and hovered to Shine's side, giving Calum no more attention. Instead, she and Shining focused on the 4th creature to approach.

The feline frowned, and so did his new companion, as they look over Miami. Another face he didn't recognize, but... Shine didn't like it. Something negative hovered in the air around the. Not anything he could see, but could be felt. Even after Miami cracked a smirk after telling a deadpan joke, the feline's expression didn't change much. "No... No eating..." he muttered, tail flicking. "Friend, not foe."

Hazel found this to be a much more preferred way of meeting a new companion. The Ascendants had been introduced to her and Arion via the colt’s impatience and impulsivity — otherwise known as him sprinting over the scent markers and nearly running over half the clan. Most of the people who greeted her couldn’t believe a tiny feline was with a Thoroughbred colt; which, in hindsight, was probably valid. But Hazel really wouldn’t have lived on her own for a month had she not discovered Arion. Despite his lack of fangs and claws, Arion’s hooves and speed more than made up for it. Hazel owed him her life.

Upon her appearance on the scene, Arion was closely trailing her heels, desperate for attention now that she was there. She let him nip at her tail, and nudge her this way and that with his muzzle, but took a swipe if he got too rough.

“An interesting name.” Hazel noted, eyeing Shininglight’s avian. After a quick glance around, she came to the conclusion that the only familiar face here was Suiteheart, which was...unnerving. “Any special reason for it?” She asked, turning her attention back to Shine.

The next to arrive looked quite more friendly than the last. Shining decided to focus on them, and listen to their words. Tabitha matched Hazel's gaze, tilting her head slightly at the question. The male feline, meanwhile, shook his own. "Didn't give, not me. Mother's choice. Tabitha told me. Don't understand bird?" he asked, a bit confused. Maybe not everyone could understand a hawk's calls and cries. Shining had a sort of connection with them- especially the Tribe. "Tabi is... good name for her. I feel it. Feisty. Stubborn. Have lots of stubborn friends."

Tabitha piped at him. Seems she didn't like being called stubborn.
