LOST IN WONDERLAND
She didn't know how long it had been since she began walking. Time was a concept still outside the young kit's grasp, days could become weeks, and afternoons, months. She had woken up one day to the den in shambles on top of her, her parents sticky. Child naivety told her to find a new one and that's just what she did. Her only possession she took with her, a teddy bear a little too well loved, eye and nose missing with just the stitches left, fabric patchy. Worn smooth in some places, and plush fluff in others. They traveled far and wide, but something kept calling her and she kept following.
Off-white paws ached from the travel, the bear feeling like a rock on her back. By now she looked more brown than blue, covered in soot, dust and grime. The water she'd encountered was too deep to do anything but drink from unless she wanted to drown. Tongue baths hadn't done much either, since she hadn't inherited a serval's tongue, but a kitsune's. Her pelt clung to her body, ribs protruding and still trying so hard to protect lungs that felt like they'd been stabbed, her heart feeling like it beat slower the more steps she took. She couldn't hunt, surviving on berries and carcasses that made her sick before they filled her.
Her legs gave out, sending her crashing down, and a plume of dust up. Teddy fell off her back in a slump, face down in the ground. Her wings unfolded at her sides like paper, back legs sprawled out behind her. She was so disorientated, she couldn't even smell that she'd crossed a scent line.
