FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT || joining - Pastel - 08-07-2019 [align=center] LOST IN WONDERLAND
She didn't know how long it had been since she began walking. Time was a concept still outside the young kit's grasp, days could become weeks, and afternoons, months. She had woken up one day to the den in shambles on top of her, her parents sticky. Child naivety told her to find a new one and that's just what she did. Her only possession she took with her, a teddy bear a little too well loved, eye and nose missing with just the stitches left, fabric patchy. Worn smooth in some places, and plush fluff in others. They traveled far and wide, but something kept calling her and she kept following. [sub][W]isker[/sub]Off-white paws ached from the travel, the bear feeling like a rock on her back. By now she looked more brown than blue, covered in soot, dust and grime. The water she'd encountered was too deep to do anything but drink from unless she wanted to drown. Tongue baths hadn't done much either, since she hadn't inherited a serval's tongue, but a kitsune's. Her pelt clung to her body, ribs protruding and still trying so hard to protect lungs that felt like they'd been stabbed, her heart feeling like it beat slower the more steps she took. She couldn't hunt, surviving on berries and carcasses that made her sick before they filled her. Her legs gave out, sending her crashing down, and a plume of dust up. Teddy fell off her back in a slump, face down in the ground. Her wings unfolded at her sides like paper, back legs sprawled out behind her. She was so disorientated, she couldn't even smell that she'd crossed a scent line. speech Re: FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT || joining - Vathmos - 08-07-2019 Aw, look at the poor little kitten. All tuckered out. Vathmos watched it from the underbrush, hiding in the greenry and stench of the swamp. She briefly wondered if she could get away with eating this kit before her clanmates got here. Then she figured she shouldn't. Better not push her luck. She wondered if the kitten would've been tasty. Probably stringy and tender. Mmmmm. She was hungry. Vathmos finally came out of the woodworks, the hideous and heinous laughter leaking out from her throat. The hyena trodded over- she smelled horrible. She smelled of dried blood and meat, her body bandaged up in various spots, and those bandages were covered in dirt. She should get them changed.... She leaned over the kitten, sniffing the creature and moving away the... object with her nose, to get a better look at the kitten. Vathmos poked the kitten with her nose. Maybe she could get away with eating it if she told everyone she thought it was dead... ━ [b]MY SKIN IS A STORY┆LONELY. CLINGY. Wormwood had always had a significant soft spot for children. After all, he had been mistreated and ignored for most of his childhood, and he didn't want any children to suffer like he had for most of his life. One thing this included was that, pretty damn simply, he didn't want any kids to be eaten. He emerged slowly from the trees of the swamp around them, and he immediately tended up when he saw Vathmos nosing at the kit's small and limp body. His mouth worked before his brain did, motivated by fear and anger as he snarled at the hyena, moving forward with his teeth bared threateningly as he spoke, [glow=#793B29,1,400]"Don't even think about it, Vathmos. She needs help."[/glow] He moved over to the small girl and looked her over carefully before gently prodding at her with his wing. When she didn't immediately respond, he tried to carefully take her by the scruff, lifting her up and moving to gently put her on a nearby log. Once she was off the hard dirty ground, he turned and roared, [glow=#793B29,1,400]"We need some help! Selby? Shit, I don't know if Selby is still sick..."[/glow] He sighed and turned back to the kitten and gently nuzzled at her, mumbling softly, [glow=#793B29,1,400]"Hey... hey, can you wake up for me? Do you need food, water? You seem like it..."[/glow] He had some food and rainwater stashed in his house, but he wasn't sure he wanted to leave Rhea alone with Vathmos right now. If he could wake the kit up, maybe she could ride on her back all the way to his house. She was so incredibly small compared to him that it would be very easy to just carry her along. And if she couldn't cling to him, he could always carefully carry her in his mouth. His teeth made him anxious in that scenario, but he was sure that she would be safer in his jaws than within reach of the hyena's. He wanted to believe that Vathmos wouldn't hurt someone so young and vulnerable, but she has been looking at the child like a meal, rather than a person. Selby appeared, still a little ill, and much the worse for wear, but appearing significantly better than he had the last time Wormwood had seen him. "I’m here, I’m here!" he said as he crouched down to examine the small child, voice hoarse and quiet. Selby had no significant attachment to children. He was sure they were fine, but he hadn’t been around many children in his year of life. He wondered why there were so few children in Tanglewood. It was a little strange that everyone seemed to be an adult. The medic examined the kit, touching her as little as possible. He was grateful for the elevation the log provided. He found no sign of illness or injury, he simply said, "She’s dehydrated and likely malnourished. I think she just needs food, water, and rest." He reached into his bag and pulled out a small canister of water, unscrewing the top and holding it out for the kit for when she woke up. Before she'd left, her whole world had been the den, and her parents. She didn't know that other places existed let alone other animals that could interact like her family did. She'd encountered none on the journey here, so to vaguely hear the swimming words of others in her ears, it petrified her. [sub][W]isker[/sub]She was nudged and moved and then nudged again and she froze, looking up at the much larger beings like a deer in headlights. The kit was too frightened to understand their words, wanting so badly to run, but teddy was so far away now and she was still so tired. The thought of moving her limbs again hurt. Then she was being poked and prodded at, and her muscles tensed so much it sent a jolt of pain throughout her body. Then the small one offered her something, but she was visibly skeptical of the object and its contents. speech Re: FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT || joining - Vathmos - 08-07-2019 Vathmos was pulling away from the child as Wormwood approached- she heard him coming this time. As he snipped at her, Vathmos' ears laid back and her tail went up. Her faces creased and her lips upturned. "Think about what, Wormwood?" Sure, she had been thinking about eating the poor thing, but Vathmos was feeling particularly mean at the moment. She didn't appreciate being accused. She leaned over the kit again, looking it over and relaxing her posture. Guess she had to be nice, huh? "Hey. It's alright. We're not gonna hurt you." ━ [b]MY SKIN IS A STORY┆LONELY. CLINGY. "It’s just water, dear. You should drink some," he said as gently as he could with a dead voice. "Where are your parents? How long have you been walking? Wormwood, could you get her something to eat?" Re: FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT || joining - Pastel - 08-07-2019 [align=center] LOST IN WONDERLAND
Vathmos' teeth scared her and she almost fell off the log as she shied away. Then she saw the small one take a drink out of the container, and she tentatively took it from him and began drinking. The water spilled out of her mouth onto her chest at times when she couldn't swallow it fast enough. It registered that he was asking questions. [sub][W]isker[/sub]"Home," Her voice was dry despite the water she had consumed, as if she hadn't spoken in a very long time. "I don't know how long..." speech Re: FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT || joining - wormwood. - 08-07-2019 [glow=#000,1,400]BUT NOW I UNDERSTAND YOU, AND I WILL NOT BE PART OF YOUR DESIGNS — 。+゚.[/glow]
Worm glared a bit back at Vathmos and mumbled softly, his tail flicking dangerously from side to side as he spoke just low enough that the kit couldn't here, [glow=#793B29,1,400]"I could see you practically drooling over her. You can't just be so ready and eager to eat a child."[/glow] He huffed and shook his head a bit before looking at Selby when he heard his name. He dipped his head and mumbled softly as he moved to carefully move past the small group, [glow=#793B29,1,400]"Yeah, I can get her something to eat. I'll be back."[/glow] He took a deep breath and began running towards his home, ignoring the faint burn in his back legs. He returned after a few minutes with a few rather fresh mice carefully clutched in his jaw, carefully moving over to Rhea and lowering his head to put the mice near her without frightening her at all. Re: FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT || joining - Perseus - 08-07-2019
Upon arriving, the blind male just let out a huff. What was the mess he had walked into? For one, their was a hyena almost eating a 'corpse.' A classic scavenger. Perseus was surprised Vathamos hadn't dined on Goldenluxury's head or Arrow's dead body. Unbeknownst to him, that was in the hyena's nature. The German Shepherd was too quick to judge though and had taken it as another ghastly quality of the strange creature. The second thing though was being ignored. A lost child was among them, barely conscious and awaiting help. Instead of acknowledging the scuttle with Vathamos and Wormwood's comemnts, he moved along towards Rhea. 'Home' wasn't very helpful. They needed a place. Even a description could be of any assistance, but all they got was a word that meant nothing. As in, it meant nothing to him and within the context of the situation. "Home," he echoed back. "And where is that, sweetheart?" His soft spoken voice was aimed in the direction of the small figure as best as he could work out. Otherwise the blind dog's head was facing parallel to the ground. template by orion
