He knew the laws of alchemy and thus the laws of life. Human transmutation was a big taboo in both alchemy and life in general. You didn't come back from such acts without consequences, and it showed through the Elric brothers. So he had seen it firsthand, yet he was still making this decision.

Desperate times led people to desperate places.

It felt like there was this invisible weight on his back. Each passing day, it only got heavier, weighing on his mind and slowing him down. He thought he'd get over it. One day, he would forget his origins and start anew. He'd make up for all his past mistakes with this second chance at life. But it was a lot easier said than done. Some would say his life had been fulfilling, but he still felt like he had missed out on so much.

He'd be damned if his daughter ended up that way just because of King Bradley and his dark plots. He didn't want his family to end up dead at the hands of some homunculi, or have to live in some society ruled by them--whatever that bastard was planning. They were both dead men, him and Roy, but hopefully he could change that.

Alchemy was never something he was interested in, and he had always left it up to the State Alchemists. It was their jobs as dogs of the military. He wasn't jealous of them and what they had to go through in the war. But that didn't mean he hadn't touched a single book on it. There were many things he didn't tell or show to other people, for better or for worse. He had his own secrets.

As he drew the large symbol on the floor of his room, he hoped he had gotten it right. It had been a while, so hopefully he wasn't about to fuck this up. He wasn't even sure if this would work, or do what he intended it to. His knowledge on this was just enough to get him by.

"Well, here goes," the lab takes a deep breath, placing his paws on the outer ring. Then he gasps as a bright blue light fills the room.

In all honesty, Roy wasn't aware that Hughes looked into alchemy. From the years he knew him, alchemy never seemed to strike an interest in Hughes, or at least that's what Mustang believed. Hughes was never a state alchemist, nor did he tell anyone that he read on the matter. But even Hughes would know about the taboo that was common among all alchemists. Human transmutation, it is strictly forbidden and it was for a good reason. The Elric brothers were the perfect example, they dared to commit the taboo, believing they had the perfect array. They thought they could bring their mother back to life, to see her smile again. Instead they created a hideous, monstrous creature that put their lives into a world of pain. And then there was Roy, who didn't mean to commit the taboo- but in the end, he still did it.

It was by pure accident too, he really should have listened to Fullmetal before he took any steps closer to that array. It cost him his life, and now he's stuck here to spend the rest of it. The only reason he doesn't view this as a living hell is due to Hughes being here. If Roy was alone, he wasn't sure how long he'd last.

Roy had a feeling on his chest too, a feeling of guilt. He felt guilt for leaving Amestris behind, leaving his unit and Fullmetal to handle the humonculi by themselves. He could have helped save Amestris, if he wasn't so ignorant during that situation. He's just as dead as Hughes, and it was a strange reality to accept. But unlike Hughes, Roy didn't have any plans to change it. Roy has seen what human transmutation did to Edward and Alphonse, once the dead cross the gate, they can't come back. He and Hughes must have past that gate to get here, he knew that it couldn't be possible to Amestris. He wished that he could, but he knew that it would never happen. And that he shouldn't try any crazy stunts either, as that will only cause more pain and agony. He already has enough guilt and sorrow on his heart.

Roy had been padding around the observatory, thoughts running through his mind. He has came to realize lately that padding around was a good way to get these thoughts off of his mind, as there wasn't much he could do. As he padded around, his gaze landed on the doorway to Maes room. Thankfully for Roy, the door was left open and he could see flashing, blue light. The male froze in his place, eyes constricting to slits as he recognized that familiar, blue lightning. Without another thought, Roy allowed his paws to take him into Maes room, coming to a halt at what he saw.

There was Hughes, sitting on the ground, with his front paws firmly on a transmutation circle. A transmutation circle that looked as big as the room. An array that has complex symbols, like really complex symbols. While he looked at it, he began to realize something. This transmutation circle- it looks exactly like the one that managed to get him sent here! A human transmutation circle! The Flame Alchemist thought, What the hell is Hughes doing? He's going to get himself killed again! His ears flattened to his skull, and sudden anger fumed up in his blue eyes. It was the same anger and hostility he had expressed to Fullmetal when he approached Ed and Alphonse not long after they committed the taboo.

"MAES HUGHES!" The Flame Alchemist yelled out in a loud, militaristic voice, surely one Hughes was used to hearing. But probably not directed to him as often. Roy began to run over to the canine, getting closer and closer to the lab and the human trasnmutation array. And without a warning, the male suddenly lunged, attempting to pounce at Hughes and get him away from the transmutation circle. If successful, he and Hughes would land roughly a couple feet away from the circle, thankfully stopping it.

— THE SHADOWS ON MY WALL DON'T SLEEP
Roy Mustang is a 3 year and 4 months old melanistic bobcat. He has obsidian fur- light shades on his muzzle, paws, belly, chest, and tail tip and darker spots all over his body. He is an amputee, his back right leg left in an uneven cut, stump. Roy is an Alchemist who specifies in flame alchemy- he has fire and air elementals. He resides in the Ascendants, happily married to Riza Hawkeye. Roy does not trust strangers easily, they must earn it. He's also blind.

Upon seeing a bright glowing light of blue, Luna had ran straight to the room where she had seen Maes enter which was the room the light had come from. She would stare in shock for a brief few moments before she hurled herself into the nearest spot of shelter and called out. "What's going on?"

Alchemy. Transmutation. Homonculi.

They were words that Margaery had almost never come across in her life. Sure, she had read a bit on alchemy in a book of hers a long time ago, but she never understood the process nor the taboos and restrictions in place to keep it, well, ethical. She supposed it all boiled down to the same thing- the paranormal. She fell into that category with her vampirism but, when it came to relying on another's blood and life force to survive, there weren't as many rules in place. She was vastly unaware of the moral code that came with being an alchemist and had not even the slightest of ideas what human transmutation was... though it certainly had an ominous ring to it.

All she did know right now was that Roy was making quite the commotion.

Part of her didn't even want to investigate. She was tired and wasn't feeling very well and the energy that was required to forcibly get up and joining the forming group currently evaded her. It was a miracle that she somehow coaxed herself into it, following the loud sounds until she came across Maes, Luna, Roy, and a circle that succeeded in sending a chill down her spine. What exactly was Maes doing? And why did Roy seem so hellbent on preventing it?

"What is that?" She inquired, her voice neither honeyed or sweet as she stared at the transmutation circle with mistrusting eyes. There was something wrong here, that much was obvious, and Margaery, with renewed vigor, wanted to know what.

Bastille was alerted by Roy's screeching, and while the name he yelled was a familiar one, there was still an automatic flicker of adrenaline telling him to get to the source. Never one to ignore the potential for a fight (so shoot him), the bengal was abandoning his task to bound down the stairs to the basement, figuring that teleporting himself into the middle of a shitshow might not be his greatest idea. Sure enough, as he slid to a stop beside Margy and surveyed the situation, he found a relative shitshow at hand.

No one seemed particularly harmed, at least. Roy looked like he was losing his shit, Maes looked... a little tied up at the moment, and everyone else was just milling about in confusion and asking dumb questions about the circle. Roy looked a little too caught up at the moment to be answered them, but Bast didn't really care, honestly. He eyed the set up, scowling as he tilted his head to study the circle. Looked culty as fuck. "Isn't this the type of culty ass shit that got you two killed in the first place?" he huffed, which -- okay, so he probably could have rephrased things a little, but y'know. It was Bastille. And, for that matter, it was Roy.
Honey, you're familiar, like my mirror years ago, Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on his sword, Innocence died screaming; honey, ask me, I should know, I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door.   [sup]▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃[/sup]
