The family thrived in the forest, able to secure themselves a decent densite to call home. As Max grew older, he noticed his parents growing frail and weak: symptoms of a disease that they picked up through infected animal carcasses by the mountain as well as their old age getting to them both. He eventually became the primary caretaker for his siblings, providing food whenever he could and teaching them to hunt and swim. The burden of providing as a young wolf only increased as their parents succumbed to illness and eventually passed away, leaving only Max to keep hungry mouths fed. Nonetheless, he tried to make things work. And they did for a while.
The three siblings were able to sustain themselves, but the impending force of nature (and chaos) was at their doorstep. During an intense, freak storm, a group of reckless rogues kidnapped his siblings, creating blockades to prevent Max, who had given chase to the kidnappers, from catching them. Even after Max passed the obstacles, he was unable to find his siblings again, for they had disappeared into the beyond. Since then he has not seen his siblings — and he can only blame himself for that.
As a loner, Max kept to himself, creating as few ties as he possibly could with others. Yet in time, he began to struggle even more through his isolation: paranoia, depression, and the constant pang of loneliness. What he could provide for his siblings in the future, he could provide for others in the moment — and so he founded the Enclave one spring day, taking up residence in an abandoned summer camp within a sprawling lakeside forest and offering a home for those that could provide themselves and aligned with his interests and morals.
