There was a particular ease in deeming Vincent one who thought little of such things when his opinion was apparent, a day as any other his own during his nine years. Yet a discrepancy was there, his own lack of interest did not apply to others and he revealed in the festivities even as he denounced his own. Why rob a joy that another found pleasing when he had lost it, to make another as miserable as him seemed counted productive.
Indeed a normal day was this, as any that had passed before, early had he been roused from slumber, though his eyelids were not burnt with perverse imagery and it instead was long since hammered in habit. Languid his rise, time spent stretching out each extremity, familiar the tingle that worked at the space between skin and muscle, a fine static that verged on painful. Slow the shake of each paw, the sensation slow in departing as nerves awoke, a final sharp twinge concluding it. Lacking anything that may cause him to linger for any time longer his departure came about, few those occupying the wider cavern beyond, some very apparently still waking fully.
All ignored as he stepped out upon the smooth ledge beyond entrance, chilled still even as the sun began to rise over the uneven horizon, faint still the spill of illumination he watched through narrowed eyes. Difficult to truly determine the amount of time that had passed, mind wandering, evidently still sleep close enough at hand he slipped once more beneath the embrace of the sunlight. Sharp the noise that bypassed clenched teeth, back straightening as eyes opened, pain working along his spine, unused to such sudden movement.
Annoyance sharpened the words laid across his tongue, vision quickly moving across the stone shelf in search of the culprit, his mind finally catching up and registering the clap that had startled him. There was no chance to speak, however, the realisation of who spoke leaving the insults to fall away. Some seemed perplexed, even annoyed as they, too, located the rabbit that had apparently interjected in a manner that broke various conversations. It was the few sparse calls in response that finally clued Vincent in as to what Fragglerock had announced with an enthusiasm somewhat dampened beneath confusion.
His birthday.
A few times did he blink, registering the situation. Short the time had Fraggle been among them, longer than he had though such an unnecessary thought left aside for now, still the change was evident. As with any child he had grown at an exceptional pace, the change gradual and minute enough it was missed until the other could be truly studied, the evidence more than clear. Gradual his rise, closer stepping, tongue tied in a bid to find something, anything to say. Too little did he know the child, surprising than how much gravity the situation seemed to bear.
"Happy birthday." All that came forth as his mouth finally began to move, his mind slowly turning. In the departure of a proper celebration was he rather lacking, no ideas coming up, thus to the possibility of a gift did he turn. What could one get such a kid, what might be suitable.
