The fact that Silent had been strengthening the grip on Vigenere's neck didn't help the fact that the Luminary's mask made things hard to breathe anyway. That being said, whenever the Ardent decided to encase Vigenere within his chest-mouth, the mask ended up tumbling off. Of course, with Vigenere being unconscious at that point, it didn't really matter.
By the time Silent and his prisoner returned to The Pitt, Vigenere had awoken. He groaned as his body was moved about, and coughed as he fell to the ground. Vigenere was aware of the saliva covering him and quite frankly, was disgusted - but the emotion of anger is what fueled him right now.
