i was born, on the highway, in a train wreck
with a heart, that was beating, out of my chest
Almost as soon as the words had left Aurum's mouth, he braced himself for the look that flashed across Arrow's face. The pain, and the remorse glossing over her eyes when she realized Leroy was honestly and truly gone. Aurum opened his mouth, ready to apologize again for what had happened, despite the fact there was nothing he or anyone else could've done to save the former proxy, but then came the arrival of Crow. The guardsman wasn't sure what exactly he had been expecting from the general – perhaps relief? Happiness? Sorrow? – but instead of anything he could've been expecting, Crow reacted with... anger, and malice. Immediately the lion's ears flattened against his skull, his mouth opening to give Crow a vicious tongue lashing for his hurtful words, but he held himself back, not wanting to interrupt what Arrow's response would be. Her response was... well, touched with exhaustion. She sounded upset and like she wanted to cry, but was just too wiped out to do so. Her reaction was enough to make a soft growl leave the lion, his eye narrowing angrily at Crow. Leader or not, the feline was being a complete and utter dick, and there was no way that Aurum was going to let him just continue using his pain as an excuse to lash out at someone that they had missed so much.
As he readied himself once again, Roy came over, the boy frowning as he pressed into his father's side, hiding himself away. Aurum draped one of his wings over his son, comforting him despite the negativity of the situation. The angel gave a firm nod when he heard Roy's words, hissing sharply to Crow as his fluffy tail lashed from side to side behind him, "Roy's right, Crow. Getting angry at Arrow won't do anything to bring Leroy back, and all it will do is make her feel upset. I understand you're grieving right now, but that doesn't give you an excuse to be an asshole. And you know as well as I do that Leroy wouldn't approve of you blaming Arrow for him not being here." His words were sharp, but he also considered them to be true, and he very much did not approve of the words that Crow had arrived with. As he fell silent, he glanced down at Roy, gently touching his nose to the tiger's head before rumbling to Arrow, sighing heavily, "Like he said, this is Roy. He's actually, uh... he's actually my son." He wanted to welcome Arrow with actually happy news, and not have her be bombarded with apologies or anger words.
