they strummed and hummed for their patron, not expecting any viewers or audience. they wouldn't mind, though. part of their trials including reciting phrases and psalms in front of others, burying the nervous ache of public performance long ago.
eyes opened once more not long after roman entered the room, but cottontail only gave a small glance in acknowledgement to the other before continuing on.
"revered master, patron in the clouds, hear my prayer in this hour. watch over me so i might guide others in your name. i ask this of you with open arms, o fire in our souls. provide me with your heavenly song." they gave a few more intricate strums before seeing redvox approach, pulling their hood down and expression lifting in a smile. they nodded, though humble.
"i've been practicing a long time, i'm just now really getting the hang of playing the trickier parts." they played a small, minor chord to show. "oh, that's fine! mother said it was my turn anyway. she hasn't been feeling well since it started getting colder, so i've been taking on her usual chores to help out. she has this thing uh... ar... arch-kite-us? says it makes her joints hurt a lot."
they didn't want to tell redvox entirely, but this years had come a lot worse than the last. her symptoms hadn't shown up until well into the cold season, and now once the first leaf fell it seemed her body just couldn't keep up.
