[font=trebuchet ms]The reptile was indeed thirsty, probably more than she let on given how she scratched at her throat. Dehydration was a silent killer, but a quick one. Still, she was understanding everything Straw said and responding coherently, so she probably wasn't in serious danger of dying from thirst. The stranger seemed young- Straw wouldn't be able to guess exactly how young, but probably young enough to not have much experience with self-care.
Anyway, yes, Straw could get water. "It's down the mountain," she answered, with a flick of her tail towards the base of the mountain. After thinking for a moment and realizing that that meant abandoning this attempt at climbing the mountain, she added, "Mountain will be here later. If you get more supplies... you can do it then." It wasn't really giving up if you came back and completed the task later; it had taken her a while to understand, but she eventually saw the sense in it.
