She had tried for so, so long on her wandering trip to fly, but it had always evaded her. Why, she wasn't sure. It was not pleasant, constantly leaping from trees and finding herself crashing down onto the ground. It was fine when it was grass, less so when it was anything other than such.

Her tiny talons were scrabbling against the rocky ground. She heaved herself upwards, in search of the greatest perch everer in order to fling herself off and finally achieve flight. Sanzu had been climbing up for quite some time know, trying to find a suitable enough perch for her to leap off of. She dreamed of the day that her webbed wings would be able to curl the wind underneath them and she would rise high into the air like the dragons that her parents had been and told her about.

Sanzu wasn't really sure how long she'd been climbing upwards. A while, she knew that much. It made her arms and her wings feel so sore and so tired. It was such a steep climb- it honestly hadn't looked that big from where she had begun her ascent! This was utterly a show of big and massive stupid stuff that honestly she could care less about. She honestly felt her desire to fly waver under a new desire: to lay down and rest her head and sleep.

Her glowing tongue hung from her mouth as she finally did come to a rest. Her wings and entire body flopped down on the ground, loudly huffing afterwards. This was an exhausting climb. This wasn't a comfy spot. She rested a talon on top of her snout, loudly grumbling. "Thiss isss way too tall, too much climb," the young dragon complained, her ears adding on to her drooping look as they lowered. She was never going to reach the top at this rate! How annoying, how absolutely and utterly annoying. She didn't have a vocabulary extensive enough to deem it anything more than annoying. She wished she had a better term to use, but alas, she was too tired to even try to think of one that she did know.

[font=trebuchet ms]Straw had experienced her fair share of leaping from trees and crashing onto the ground, though in her case flight wasn't the goal. She was just a red panda, not known for their ability to fly, but very well known for their ability to climb. Racing across treetops, launching herself up mountainsides, gaining altitude as fast as she could using just her natural biology was a perfect pastime. Besides, the wind up high soothed her mind in a way few other things could.

She could imagine that wings would probably help, but she'd never seen a four-legged creature with wings before- up until now. The appearance of a winged reptile on the mountain spiked her curiosity, though she remained cautious as she approached, ready to bolt at a moment's notice. The beast looked more tired than threatening, but literally anything could happen.

Straw adjusted her mask with one paw upon coming within a few meters of the reptile, then asked softly, "Uh... what brings you here?"

Her tongue flickered from her maw, her eyes looking up at how far she had left to scale. This was so far and way too tiring. A nap sounded nice. A nap sounded really good right now.

An ear twitched at the noise of speech. Then her head raised, tongue flickering again. Oh, there was a person! It was a person and they were new and strange. She wasn’t quite sure as to what the other was- the mask on the other’s face and her childish mind couldn’t quite pin down what species was approaching her. The small dragon didn’t stand up, and remained with her head lifted up. Her eyes squinted and her curious expression was furthered. What and who? A small ‘mwar’ sounded from her, and her ears raised in interest.

Goin’ upah,” Sanzu answered after a moment of only stating curiously away. Her long tail added to the movement and pointed up the path that she had been scaling upwards with. It was a thrilling quest, but a tiring one. She didn’t know if she’d be able to get up! Her talons and legs were dreadfully tired and her young body said that a good, long nap was in order. Her body was not used to the strenuous exercise of climbing much more than trees, and her tail helped her. Claws were useful to latch onto bark and powerful hind legs let her power up the trunks of trees. Not rocky environments, not mountains for sure. Tiring, but it would be worth it, Sanzu was sure.

[font=trebuchet ms]The mask proved useful for hiding her face. It sometimes bothered her that her primary reason for wearing it was something others would probably find suspicious, but she didn't need to hide her actual identity, and she wasn't doing it to get away with committing crimes- it just comforted her to appear stoic all the time. Her actual face could be read like a card, and easily exploited from there, but the mask made it harder for others to do that.

The reptile was trying to go up the mountain. Her reason for doing so was unimportant; for all Straw knew, she was climbing the cliffs just to climb, and that was just fine. Still, she appeared exhausted. Twitching her ears, Straw glanced up the mountain to follow the tail's pointing, but then looked back at the stranger. "Are you thirsty?" she asked, tilting her head. She could get some water for the stranger, for sure. After that... well, hopefully everything would just follow from there.

Another flicker of her forked tongue, glancing over her shoulder at the long limb of question. Too tired to have the strength to lower her tail correctly. Of course, that was why she was sitting, so she could get back to climbing in no time! Her claws tapped the ground in an eager anticipation.

Thir’ty? Uh. A little. I’a b’n climbin’ for a while sso uh yea, my throat issa hurtin’,” the dragonet answered. A claw tipped hand reached to scratch at her throat, as if to add on to her statement in a physical way. It wasnt a horrific thirst but it most certainly could be deemed annoying. To a young creature thirst often had warranted sobbing and wailing and tantrums in order to be sated. She had no such urges- not anymore. Too old to throw a tantrum, too young to know fully how to do such herself. It was a sad inbetween time, but for the moment she was certainly managing. Managing wasn’t really thriving, and her aspirations were set on taking to the sky after climbing up this tall mountain. “You are wi’h th’ havin’ water?” Sanzu then asked. Her horned head tipped again, and another flicker of her tongue followed. Her maw seemed to struggle with fully pronouncing..pretty much anything. Managing, just like her survival, but it was far from the greatest.

[font=trebuchet ms]The reptile was indeed thirsty, probably more than she let on given how she scratched at her throat. Dehydration was a silent killer, but a quick one. Still, she was understanding everything Straw said and responding coherently, so she probably wasn't in serious danger of dying from thirst. The stranger seemed young- Straw wouldn't be able to guess exactly how young, but probably young enough to not have much experience with self-care.

Anyway, yes, Straw could get water. "It's down the mountain," she answered, with a flick of her tail towards the base of the mountain. After thinking for a moment and realizing that that meant abandoning this attempt at climbing the mountain, she added, "Mountain will be here later. If you get more supplies... you can do it then." It wasn't really giving up if you came back and completed the task later; it had taken her a while to understand, but she eventually saw the sense in it.

Annoying, truthfully. Her gaze turned over her shoulder, back at the way she had came. The small dragon pouted, her resting her head back against the ground. "Don' wanna hafta come all way back up, issa ve'y far!" Sanzu said as her ears lowered close to her head. What even were supplies? It was a strange word, and the young dragon mouthed it over a few times. That didn't sound like it was an easy word to say. She would have to use it sometime, whatever it meant. Then she would seem smart! Sanzu liked being deemed smart, and her tongue once more flickered from her agape maw. She wasn't panting- dragons didn't do that. She didn't shiver nor sweat, either.

Finally Sanzu stood back up. Her legs nearly buckled, but after a moment she firmed herself. "Where from? Up t'p of th' uppah?" She inquired. Her small wings stretched and gave a few experimental flaps. Still waiting for flight to fall into her talons. She couldn't wait! She had to get up there! She just had to fly today or she was going to lose it! She had said that to herself for the past month, but it was true this time! "Issa c'lled muntin? Marp?" She echoed the term 'mountain' as well, her wings awkwardly folding next to her sides.

[font=trebuchet ms]She didn't want to go back, because of how far it was. Straw had expected this; she understood that feeling well. "Sunk cost fallacy," Ly had called it once, the feeling of having come too far to turn back, even though going further would cost more than going back. Still, the reptile probably couldn't make it up there today, especially not if she was thirsty. Now would be a good time to have water magic, but Straw still didn't have any such powers.

The reptile's tongue flickered almost like a lizard's, but Straw knew this wasn't a typical lizard. No lizard was this big, let alone winged. "The uppah?" Straw mouthed to herself, tilting her head in the other direction in confusion. Once realization hit, though, she tapped her mask with one paw and shook her head. "The mountain? No. I'm from the town." A land further off than that, if she wanted to be technical, but she doubted the reptile cared about where she was born.

With a nervous chuckle, she nodded. "Yeah. It's called a mountain." The continued flapping of the reptile's wings was hypnotic, almost, the way they beat the air around them. Blinking, Straw cleared her throat. "It's far. I know. But you should come drink."

Getting used to her weight being there again after laying down. Still exhausted. She was small for a dragon, although it could be attributed to her age. Only a foot tall, but in comparison to the height of other cold blooded creatures it was quite big indeed. "Towm?" Sanzu echoed. Her tongue flickered again- it was just a habit, it was as instinctual as breathing. She probably couldn't stop it if she tried.

The young dragon hobbled over a few paces closer, her tail rapidly swishing behind her. "Ivah n'r been t' a towm bef'r!" She then said. Town, what was a town? She frowned, realizing that she wasn't quite able to nail the correct ending noise for the word. Oh well. She was trying her best, and her best was all that mattered! Just like all of her flying attempts! Although she would be far more happy if she could be flying by now- that was the point of this quest! "In th' towm t' drink?" Sanzu asked. She was curious now, as any child would be. Maybe a town had some perches she could jump off of before she continued trying to get up this mountain. "Moumtin. Mounibin. Bleh." Sanzu grumbled, her tongue now purposefully sticking out of her mouth. Curse those words! They were way too hard for a young dragon such as her to pronounce, even with her attempts it was often a challenge to understand.

[font=trebuchet ms]Straw didn't see herself as especially perceptive, but there was no mistaking the curiosity in the reptile's voice when she mentioned the town. Indeed, the reptile then admitted that she had never seen a town before. Towns weren't really that common, so that wasn't surprising. "First time for everything," Straw said, turning her gaze down towards the sea. "Yeah, there's drinks. Water, tea, cocoa, everything." Maybe the reptile wouldn't know what tea or cocoa were, but she could learn about that too. Tena was good at making both of them.

The stranger was having noticeable trouble pronouncing mountain, and some of the other words, and it seemed like it was frustrating her. Straw understood that, too; some words just wouldn't roll off the tongue right no matter what you did. Thankfully no one in Elysium was the type to make fun of you if you made a pronunciation mistake.

Straw started walking towards the path down the mountain, then turned to look back at the reptile. "Follow me?" she asked. She would try to press the issue if the reptile said no, but she wasn't that good at pressing issues in general.
