The man's name was Kian, and his daughter Keona- that explained their resemblance. "Privateer" meant little to Darksouls, but it sounded important, and he suspected he would learn its meaning soon enough.
"Thank you," he said, straightening up slightly. "It has been... some time. I have lost count of the days." Perhaps if he had kept a physical record he might have been shocked by its length, but he had little use for one. The further he could get from the underground, the less everything else mattered.
