bonfire lit -- joining - Splitvisage - 04-07-2019

[font=trebuchet ms]He reminisced, sometimes, about the time he spent underground.

He thought of his siblings. He had been the eldest; the middle child, spirited and adventurous, had to be kept under watch to keep them from wandering off; the youngest, silent and stoic, had imitated him, looked up to him. Their half-sister, harsh but well-meaning, guarded the two younger ones by his side.

He thought of his caretakers. Each watched him with a sense of curiosity, as if waiting to see what he would do. The eagle's thoughtful eye, the squid's inquisitive probing, the sleipnir's judgmental stare, all followed him to this day.

Had he known the truth then, could he have preserved the fond memories? Or was it all doomed from the beginning to end in him running, fleeing to the surface from a cause that could only lead to the destruction of everyone involved? The fresh air helped dispel the musty odor of the caverns, but he could not shake the feeling that he was still being watched.

The scent of sea salt was unfamiliar, but the healthy growth of foliage was a good sign, as was the scent of other people- most of whom were not large beasts like he was. Perhaps this was a place to rest, at least for a while, before he kept going. On and on, he had to travel, to the edges of the earth. Even when he got there, would he find peace?

It wasn't worth thinking about right now. Darksouls stood by the end of the railroad tracks, gently turning his head to sweep the landscape. Here, though he might be called to feed and protect the people for as long as he stayed, they would expect nothing further from him. They would not require... what his former home had.

He could be just about anything else other than that.

The petite privateer could hardly believe how busy the railroad had become these days.  Newcomers from all over.  The tiny feline melted from the jungle undergrowth, ears perked with alert focus.  Another new scent.  On the little sounds, breath especially, Keona honed in on, raising her head until she felt some level of confidence on her 'eye contact'.  Sea-green hues, pale with lack of sight, flickered.

"Aloha." Soft but not shy.  A mixed accent.  "Can I help you?"

[font=trebuchet ms]Rustling in the undergrowth drew his attention, and he glanced towards the child as she emerged from the vegetation. The way that she raised her head, her glazed eyes peering back at him- it brought to mind images of antlers stretching towards the sky, sightless gray eyes watching him, a voice far too detached for regarding one’s offspring. He should have known.

Shaking off that train of thought, he listened to the child. Her accent implied that either she, her parents, or both were not from around here either. Still, her words were kind, and she sounded as though she belonged here. Lowering his head to meet her gaze, even if the gesture was merely symbolic, he answered slowly, ”I am Darksouls. I wish... to rest here.”

[align=center][div style="width: 450px; line-height: 12px; text-align: justify; font-family: georgia; font-size: 8pt;"]KIAN Ó FAOLÁIN — sing me a symphony, one for the lost and in-between
The pirate that tailed the little privateer happened to be another feline, whom was only just a bit larger her.  Or rather, she was a smaller version of him.  His own seagreen eyes gleamed brightly, locking curiously on today's newcomer as he padded forward.

A reindeer.  An usual one but a reindeer nonetheless, and interested in rest.  "So long as you mean no trouble for the Typhoon, ya're more than welcome," the Irishman explained with a light smile.  "I'm Kian, and this is my daughter, Keona -- she's a privateer 'ere." A fact he felt immense pride for.  Keona hadn't been born in the Typhoon, but she'd been raised here and she'd made it her home.  "We can lead ya to our camp.  Have ya been traveling long?"

[font=trebuchet ms]The next one's eyes were brighter, more focused. His friendly manner, however, would not have been a common sight in the underground. It was a pleasant change of pace. Darksouls dipped his head in greeting to the man, ears twitching slightly at his words.

The Typhoon. To name your band of pirates after a natural disaster struck him as foolish, but these people seemed to be doing very well. The man's name was Kian, and his daughter Keona- that explained their resemblance. "Privateer" meant little to Darksouls, but it sounded important, and he suspected he would learn its meaning soon enough.

"Thank you," he said, straightening up slightly. "It has been... some time. I have lost count of the days." Perhaps if he had kept a physical record he might have been shocked by its length, but he had little use for one. The further he could get from the underground, the less everything else mattered.

idyllfields
stars did fall
that was quite a shocking look for a reindeer. if idyllfields had not seen one before, they would have probably mistaken the brute for some odd take of a caribou. this one was larger than those idyll normally met in the netherlands, and the crystals that sprouted from their body were mesmerizing.

they were polite not to stare for too long for it to become noticeable, lest he become uncomfortable. the coyote approached darksouls with a neutral stance, not quite sure what sort of life a wanderer may be looking to make here.

"do you need something to eat? it would be my pleasure to lead you to the capricorn tavern. there are plenty of vegetarian dishes they could serve you." they offered with a slight tilt of their head. they were very curious about the male.

"Oh, a new joiner?" and one of intriguing look - it almost reminded him of his sisters or even his uncle with those crystaline protrusions.

the void shadow inclines his head, mismatched eyes watching the group greet and welcome in their new joiner - vegetarian no doubt (unless this one had mutations to otherwise) and if indeed he had been travelling for sometime, no doubt famished.

"Luciferus Grimm, a pleasure" he motioned with a wing behind him to where Idyllfields had indicated and the general direction of said tavern, stepping aside so his fellows could lead Darksouls on.
