The insect didn't fly away, seemingly not bothered by his yelling. How? He'd never met an insect that wouldn't either flee in terror or try to defend itself when startled. There was no way it wasn't scared- he was several dozen times its size, and his voice was loud, so there was no way it couldn't fear him. Maybe it was frozen in fright, or even dead. Yes, that was the most logical answer. "Try tilting your head," he recommended, flicking his good ear. "If it falls, it's dead. If not, it's probably clinging on for dear life, out of fear."
