There it was. Thea's grin grew wider, and pupils constricting as something almost unnatural flashed in her eyes, and she had begun to dematerialize as Oni snapped at her, planning to hit him from behind, and hard, when she soldified again, confusion flashing over her features.
This miscalculation on her part was what led to Oni's attack landing, and Thea let out a startled yelp, something she was unused to hearing in this form, and aiming to send a harsh blow to his ribs in an attempt to knock the wind out of Oni, so he would hopefully let go, even with injury to a paw.
Onision was anything but a bad opponent for her. Somebody who wouldn't hold back, that was what the young Fireball craved, a challenge.
Anything to stop this feeling of hopelessness and uselessness that took her over once before. No, she never wanted to feel that way again. And becoming stronger was the best way to do it.
Sitting Thea down and trying to explain things to her just wouldn't work. On some things, sure, but some of her beliefs had to be beaten out of her by stronger opponents, or just by tragedy itself, maybe.
