He stared with a neutral expression as Aya began speaking to him, only showing some signs of personality when she prodded him with her words. Having expected the other to just acknowledge him and go home, having to suddenly create a conversation caused a little bit of awkwardness to ensue with the Cattle Dog. Honey coloured eyes blinked a couple of times, silence enveloping for just a bit too long to be natural before deciding to answer. "Walking,". And remembering. Axle didn't think he'd ever caught the feline's name either, though he didn't get hung up over his lack of knowledge. If he couldn't figure it out through natural ways (and not just asking 'who are you?') then he'd come up with a suitable alias, as he'd done previously with strangers. Whomever the nameless creature was though, she was a good talker, and as she continued trying to get him to open up he found himself looking away in thought.

"Preference," he answered honestly, not seeing the need to justify his antisocial behaviours past that one word answer. He'd answered it rather quickly as well, without even thinking for a second in case he did just have issues of loneliness. At this point, it seemed impossible for him to feel a desire to get out there and talk to others, there was nothing outgoing about the canine other than his relative bluntness if another's questioning got a bit too much for him. Being born away from all of these different groups, Axle could understood the inquisitiveness of those who were born and bred in this places, for they didn't exactly have the most experience of the outside world. Perhaps he envied them in that way, things certainly would've been easier on the Heeler had he never interacted with humans, but the past couldn't be changed now. Silently he observed Aya for a few moments, before he began his stroll elsewhere, making no indication that the tortie was allowed to stay or go. It seemed like it'd be up to the young female to try and carry the conversation.
