HEROES NEVER CRY | axle - aya - 08-19-2018

[div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 55%; font-family: arial; font-size: 10pt; text-align: justify;"]Aya's fur was still damp from the seawater, the tortoiseshell watching the sun deflate behind the horizon as she shook off. She took a long breath in, and another out. It came easily to her, thankfully; she was calm tonight, her own attitude mirroring the gentle waves. Aya yawned and stretched herself out; huh, she was pretty tired. Padding up the beach to head to her home, a shadow caught her eye and she glanced out across the beach. Was that a person? She thought everyone had gone, except her. "Hello?" She called out. She wasn't afraid, just a little surprised.

[align=center][div style="text-align: justify; width: 60%; font-family: georgial; font-size: 11pt;"]He didn't like getting absorbed in memories of the past, they were detrimental to him, but ever since totally zoning out at the beach cleanup event Axle had wanted to return to the shoreline. Getting sentimental wasn't his style, Axle wanted to test himself and make sure that getting weary at the ground was nothing more than a fluke and bad timing. Head kept down, the male would lumber slowly across the wasteland, careful not to keep one paw on the ground for too long despite his sluggish movements elsewhere. Having left Aya to her own devices whilst he was travelling, Axle had had no intentions of going up to the female. He truly was acting like a shadow, one that was willfully silent and couldn't form full sentences efficiently when he was willing to converse. That was what muting himself did, with a natural stubbornness as well the Heeler didn't appear to want to change that.

Coming to a standstill once the fellow beach dweller appeared to notice that she wasn't alone, the male's honey coloured eyes drifted towards the young tortie's figure, blinks about as tortoise-paced as the rest of him. The bandanna wearing dog still didn't approach the female when she sussed him out, for a while he seemed to just be waiting to see if she'd just leave and grant him to solitude he often forced upon himself. Teeth slowly gritted as Axle realised that it wasn't an ideal thing to do, old-world morals nudging his paws to etch just a little bit closer to Aya. "Hmm," he grunted, signalling his position on the beach. Last thing he wanted was to spook a clanmate into thinking that a ghost was on the beach, then he wouldn't get left alone. At least now there was no need for alarm.

[div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 55%; font-family: arial; font-size: 10pt; text-align: justify;"]She still didn't recognise the voice, but the calm reaction assured her that Axle was, in fact, a Tangler and therefore safe. "Oh, hey! It's you!" Whoever "you" was. The tortoiseshell approached the dog, offering him a bright smile of somewhat relief. "I thought I was on my own, you surprised me. What brings you to the beach at this hour?" Her voice was tinted with friendly regard and her paws firmly placed on the ground, but her mind was back in her lab, planning.

It took her a moment to recognise the dog, wracking her brain for his name - he was the dog she had spoken to earlier, right? "You're always alone when I see you. Are you lonely, or is that just your preference?" Aya asked, tail waving as she questioned him. Wherever he was headed, she could probably take a detour if it meant she could ally herself with another member.

He stared with a neutral expression as Aya began speaking to him, only showing some signs of personality when she prodded him with her words. Having expected the other to just acknowledge him and go home, having to suddenly create a conversation caused a little bit of awkwardness to ensue with the Cattle Dog. Honey coloured eyes blinked a couple of times, silence enveloping for just a bit too long to be natural before deciding to answer. "Walking,". And remembering. Axle didn't think he'd ever caught the feline's name either, though he didn't get hung up over his lack of knowledge. If he couldn't figure it out through natural ways (and not just asking 'who are you?') then he'd come up with a suitable alias, as he'd done previously with strangers. Whomever the nameless creature was though, she was a good talker, and as she continued trying to get him to open up he found himself looking away in thought.

"Preference," he answered honestly, not seeing the need to justify his antisocial behaviours past that one word answer. He'd answered it rather quickly as well, without even thinking for a second in case he did just have issues of loneliness. At this point, it seemed impossible for him to feel a desire to get out there and talk to others, there was nothing outgoing about the canine other than his relative bluntness if another's questioning got a bit too much for him. Being born away from all of these different groups, Axle could understood the inquisitiveness of those who were born and bred in this places, for they didn't exactly have the most experience of the outside world. Perhaps he envied them in that way, things certainly would've been easier on the Heeler had he never interacted with humans, but the past couldn't be changed now. Silently he observed Aya for a few moments, before he began his stroll elsewhere, making no indication that the tortie was allowed to stay or go. It seemed like it'd be up to the young female to try and carry the conversation.

[div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 55%; font-family: arial; font-size: 10pt; text-align: justify;"]Aya huffed and began to walk alongside Axle, unwilling to give up. "You're not a big talker, are you? Still, being lonely is nobody's preference, so I won't give you that." She lulled over his words - as few as there were - for a moment. "Drowning yourself in thoughts, huh. That can't be healthy, but I'm no medic or therapist, so I can't say."
