Well, it was that time again for the annual Ascendants Summer Camp. It was four weeks of arts and crafts, games, swimming, movies, stars, campfires, and cabins. In all honesty, it was Shay's (better known by her camp nickname of Suite) favorite summer activity. She loved getting to hang out with other camp counselors - they were always loads of fun. Admittedly, she loved the kiddos too, even if they were sometimes a handful.
Today was the first day of camp. All the kids had arrived a few hours ago, and now that they were settled and given their team colors in the form of bandannas, it was time for the fun to begin. Suite was wearing a deep red bandanna as a headband. Red was her team: the best team. They were going to kickass in the longboat race this year! They had won in the past, and they were going to defend their title. Plus, Shay had been talking mad shit to the other counselors about it from the moment they had arrived.
"Alright, kiddos! Time for longboat races!" she called into the megaphone, and immediately, the campers began to scramble towards the water. "Grab a life jacket on the way!" She watched as each kid politely stopped to be outfitted with a preserver. She was glad they were being somewhat well behaved this year (she wasn't going to hold her breath; it was the only the first day).
Almost at once, some of the children began to splash around in the water, too impatient to wait for everyone. Shay let them. Besides, it would be a minute before the teams had gathered together.
"Okay, everyone separate into your teams. Green Team gets first boat. Blue Team gets second boat. Red Team gets third boat. Yellow Team gets fourth boat." The blonde woman stepped up beside her boat and began helping her teammates climb aboard. In a few moments, the race would begin, and she couldn't wait to destroy the others with her amazing team.
