I COULD GO OFF THE DEEP END
The moon hung high in the sky when the moment is taking place, deep in a cave hidden from its light. Dim was the cave, no light reaching inside as a small margay curled up in a homemade nest of fabrics and pillows. It had started as a temporary solution after the island fell but, it had become something much more permanent. He'd never had the heart to reassemble his bed to resemble the one he had once shared with his husband. Johnny's belongings still sat piled in a corner, covered in a sheet to hide them from view. The nest had been careful constructed, still.
As of now though, the nest had been torn apart, pillows scattered as the small feline cried and flailed in his sleep, seemingly clawing at empty air. Cries and pitiful mews escaped him as whispers plagued his dreams. Tatters of torn ferns, clumps of moss scattered around his as he writhed, tearing apart the garden that grew on his back. Whispers in his mind, tearing at the guru mentally. "REMEMBER! REMEMBER WHAT YOU'VE DONE!" it screamed within his mind, beating at his mental barriers. Pitiful was the fightback, begging for the whispers in his dreams to quit speaking.
Finally, he won, and he jolted awake, a scream on his lips. "JOHNNY!" came the cry, verbal for any near to hear. Those who knew Chaz well, or had lived in the Coalition for long knew of the name, knowing that it belonged to the Guru's late husband, partner both in work and life. His husband had seemingly died of heart issues right before the meteor struck. Now, the passed guru's body remained deep in the collapsed tunnels, most likely never to be found.
Pleading and crying, the guru scrambled from his den, his husbands name a chant under his breath as he blindly stumbled, seemingly searching for something, or someone. "Johhny, Johnny please!" he cried, head swinging as petals trailed from the destroyed plants along his back. It seemed that, while awake, the guru was not truly in his mind but lost in a search for someone long past.
