[font=trebuchet ms]Shadowboxing, Quince had told her once, was almost as good as sparring, without the added fear of being judged. It seemed odd to focus on the fear of judgment when they were training to avoid the much greater threat of dying, but Straw found the difference in value between sparring and shadowboxing to be small enough that she preferred the latter. In this case, she was going to the battle training hosted by Tena anyway, so this was good practice.
Pivoting on her front paws, Straw kicked out with her back paws at the imaginary opponent. Planting her feet down, she charged headfirst at where the opponent would be and rammed her head into what she liked to think would be its legs. Being small had some advantages, particularly knocking larger enemies' legs out from under them. She had no idea who she would face when she arrived at the Pitt, but the odds that they would be larger than she was were pretty high.
She was going to protect her friends. Well, maybe "friends" wasn't the right word... actually, yeah, it was. They would fight for her, and she would fight for them. She was an Elysite, and no matter what they found waiting for them when they attacked, they would stand together.
Skidding to a stop, Straw paused to catch her breath. The moon was high, so she probably ought to consider trying to sleep. Her chronic insomnia wasn't usually a huge problem, but she needed to be at her best when they attacked. With a sigh, she sat down and leaned against a tree, closing her eyes. She wouldn't sleep here, but she could rest for a few minutes.
/dunno what this is but eh
