the empty space above -- Larkspurkit - Straw - 10-13-2019

[font=trebuchet ms]Shadowboxing, Quince had told her once, was almost as good as sparring, without the added fear of being judged. It seemed odd to focus on the fear of judgment when they were training to avoid the much greater threat of dying, but Straw found the difference in value between sparring and shadowboxing to be small enough that she preferred the latter. In this case, she was going to the battle training hosted by Tena anyway, so this was good practice.

Pivoting on her front paws, Straw kicked out with her back paws at the imaginary opponent. Planting her feet down, she charged headfirst at where the opponent would be and rammed her head into what she liked to think would be its legs. Being small had some advantages, particularly knocking larger enemies' legs out from under them. She had no idea who she would face when she arrived at the Pitt, but the odds that they would be larger than she was were pretty high.

She was going to protect her friends. Well, maybe "friends" wasn't the right word... actually, yeah, it was. They would fight for her, and she would fight for them. She was an Elysite, and no matter what they found waiting for them when they attacked, they would stand together.

Skidding to a stop, Straw paused to catch her breath. The moon was high, so she probably ought to consider trying to sleep. Her chronic insomnia wasn't usually a huge problem, but she needed to be at her best when they attacked. With a sigh, she sat down and leaned against a tree, closing her eyes. She wouldn't sleep here, but she could rest for a few minutes.

/dunno what this is but eh

lark had little to no idea what was really going on. his attention was not focused on tena's announcement about their involvement against the pitt. rather, he was more focused on when his next meal would be and when stark would come home. tena had already said no kiddo's allowed. normally those kind of restrictions would set the little tabby off but... he truthfully didn't care. war sounded dumb anyway.

in his travels of adventures he came across straw, against the wind so she could not scent him first. the boy narrowed his eyes as he watched her fight imaginary opponents around her, his tail twitching excitedly. he wanted to fight!

he bounded down the hill toward straw, breath puffing and huffing as he yowled and aimed to plow his entire body into her side.

"buggiebuggiebuggieeess!!" he shouted, playfully batting at her face.

Re: the empty space above -- Larkspurkit - Straw - 10-21-2019

[font=trebuchet ms]Behind her, Straw could hear footsteps thundering into the air, all the louder thanks to the relative silence around it. Blinking, she turned her head to face the noise- and was knocked off her feet by the unknown assailant, hitting the ground and feeling paws batting at her mask. Her fur bristling, she reeled back one paw to smack at her attacker, but halted upon realizing that the stranger was another Elysite, and a kit at that. Larkspurkit, if she recalled correctly.

Heaving a deep breath, Straw attempted to gently push Larkspurkit off of her with one paw. "Hello," she murmured, twitching her tail. If she could be ambushed by a kit, then she was clearly off her game. She had to be more focused than that in the actual battle.

  /also ish, and late, whoops
