Gabe rarely got lucky, and when he did, it was one upside proceeding a near rock-bottom, so most of the time, he simply ran with whatever cards he had. This time, he'd received a less shitty hand in the form of a little birdy mentioning Pincher was busy with something important. Was he also suspicious? Of course. He wouldn't have managed to live this long without being a paranoid fucker, but this could be the break he was waiting for; it could mean he didn't have to slum it out here for much longer, that he could go- home. Huh. Not really an epiphany he wanted at the moment, all things considered, so he shrugged it off and did his best to mask his scent, something more likely to blend in, which meant mostly taking a partial dip in the ocean and trudging through the forest a bit. He'd smell natural enough to go unnoticed, rather than masking his scent with something jarring. That wouldn't be very covert of him.
He couldn't believe he just thought that.
Ridiculousness aside, the hybrid spotted the Captain where the birdy said he'd find him, and he crept into the foliage, flattening himself while he awaited whatever kind of meeting Pincher was soon to have. Birdy hadn't been very specific, which was cause for more paranoia, but there could be plenty of other reasons for the vague details. Given his track record, he really hoped he hadn't thrown himself into the lion's den.
