A MASK OF MY OWN FACE

The egg was nice for the while, as crowded as it was, it was protecting her. Keeping her safe. But after some time the egg was getting crowded. Recent movement from her older sister's hatching was the signal. Time to break out, time to be free. Tiny claws on her front paws scratched at the inside, desperate attempt to escape the confines.

The shell sliced open from the top and her little snout pushed out. It was mottled pale green and white, with two little antennae. White feathers were slicked back with egg goop, though she seemed much less slimy than Oleander. Ruby eyes opened and closed again, jaws opening in a small, hardly audible scree! into the air.

She crawled out of the egg, body covered in egg goop but not overly so. Wings flapped gently, top feathers drying slowly with each flap. Unable to see or hear anything too well, she was able to pick up someone's cold words, "Hello, Dario." from someone. Her mother, most likely.

Again she scree'd, sitting down and opening her tiny-toothed jaws in a yawn. Maybe the outside wasn't as bad as she had imagined.

With Oleander hatching, it meant that the others were going to hatch soon. Or at least, that's what Astraea expected, anyway. The liliger's ears pricked as she heard the voice of Aphra and she turned her direction to walk towards the nest her mother made within her home. A second dragonet had hatched now and like her sister, was all gooey and slimey. Not nearly as bad, but it was certainly there. "Hi there, Dario." Astraea cooed, leaning forward and trying to sniff at the dragonet (and ignoring Aphra's hissing), before she pulled back as the little reptile let out a loud scree!

"They're going to be a feisty one, I think." Astraea mused.[glow=white,1,400] ━ ✧*:･ﾟ[/glow]

Optics turned to further faint movement from a hatchling, thin snout cracking egg open and ruby eyes flickering. A shrill scree left the newborn and Inferno felt her ears flatten. "Hey Dario. You're so cute!" A tinge of excitement in her voice as she addressed the newborn, watching her half sister nearly get her nose chomped off.

Another hatchling – how exciting. The sound of Aphra's voice was what drew the canine over, a small grin on his face as he observed the new child. Dario? Well, that was certainly an... interesting name. He didn't comment on it, though, not wanting to make Aphra upset. Instead, he focused solely on Dario, and what she looked like, particularly in comparison to Oleander. Less slimey, that was for sure. Egg goop still clung to her young form, as was standard for a newborn, but it seemed she took more after Aphra, rather than the father of the hatchlings. Aphra would certainly be glad about that, he supposed. He was just glad for the variety – made watching their development much more pleasant. It would be boring to watch three identical hatchlings grow — even if they were dragons.

As he sat down near the doorway, Arvid cleared his throat before speaking, a smile on his muzzle, "She's certainly an interesting one... not as slimey as Oleander. Guess she got most of dad's genes, and this one takes more after you, Aphra." He then waved his tail in Dario's direction, tone warm and calm as he greeted, "Hey, Dario. Welcome to the world – I'm Arvid." He knew there was no chance of the dragonet actually remembering or understanding his introduction. Still, it felt right to do so.

So many faces! Ruby eyes stared at Arvid, Astraea, and Inferno, before looking back at her mother. Then at herself. Then she shook her body and scree'd again, trying to balance on her hind legs and then collapsing on her back in a moment of panic. Like a turtle on it's back she rolled around, but it became less of a panicking motion and more of a playful motion.
