It had been easy taking her son back. Maybe she should have felt a little remorse for tricking him into coming with her, but Starjelly just wanted him back. She had watched him from afar with his new family, feeling jealousy yet relief knowing her former mate had managed to keep their son alive, even if he had died in the process.
She looked down at the black kit that jumped around with bits of snow clinging to his soft pelt. They were nearing warmer territory, and she could see the snow melting and giving way to greenery. Her tail swished back and forth as her thoughts lingered back to earlier, when she had worked up the courage to get her son.
She stood in front of the kitten, smiling softly and holding back tears as he looked back up at her with wide and curious eyes. His smile was wide, and his little tail swished back and forth.. Something a dog would normally do. "You look very pretty, Miss! I've never seen you before... Did pa send you to come take care of me?" Star chuckled softly, leaning down and pressing noses with Harrison. "I'm here to come pick you up, little one. We're going to go somewhere, and I will have a surprise there for you, okay?" His eyes lit up brightly when "surprise" was mentioned. He jumped up and now his tail was wagging ferociously. "Will the surprise be a sweater? I really want a sweater!" How cute.. "You'll just have to wait and see for yourself, little one. Now come." She then turned and began to walk out of the caverns, her son following behind. She knew they would notice his absence, so they would have to worry.
Now they were nearing a hollow, and she stopped. Harrison bumped into her and squeaked in surprise. He pulled back, star dust on the tip of his nose. The kitten could help but giggle as he huffed it off and watched it fall to the ground. Star watched him and thought over what she was going to say. This was going to be hard.. This poor little thing didn't even know her, and didn't even remember his father. He probably thought the animals back in the clan he had been living in were his family, and that made the ache in her chest hurt even more. The starry feline sighed, flattening her ears to her head. This was going to seem cruel, wasn't it? Just telling him his life had been a lie.. That the people that had raised him weren't even his real family. She was going to hate herself for this, but she.. She wanted her son back.
"You're Apollo, and I'm your mother and the people back there.. Back in Snowbound, they're not your family. They're not even related to you, okay? Your dad.. He's dead. Your real dad." She wasn't even subtle about it. Subtlety had never been her thing, and besides... It was best to be upfront about it, right? She didn't want to confuse her child. He deserved better. Though, Harrison just stared up at her and laughed, smiling. "That's funny! But you're not my mom! You look nothing like me! And my name is Harrison! Pa says so!" He said, beaming up at her. Starjelly made a small noise of distress. Why did he have to make it hard? Why were children like this? "No... Harrison is not the real you! You're Apollo, and I really am your mother.. Son, please!" She pleaded softly, trying to scoop him up and bring him close, though the kitten backed up, staring at her.
"You're not my mom! Please stop, you're scaring me! Where's my dad?" The kit said in protest, and looked around, heart pumping rapidly. "Pa! PA!!" Star began to panic, but she said one thing that made the kit go into a panic:
"You're not going home."
