the day had gone by agonizingly slow for the terrier. one by one they had brought him to each prey caught during the day. ducks. pheasants. sugar gliders. the occasional snake for those into exotic foods. multiple types of fish that auggie couldn't begin to name. with each passing hour they got tired and tired until eventually they began to drag their paws.

"go home, august. you won't do us any good if you pass out." his guard dismissed him with a shove sending him stumbling into the other direction of the food pile, blocking him off from a meal to part with. he grumbled something under his breath before padding off, picking up the pace when he noticed a familiar form.

august sped up a bit to catch up with the others larger strides, looking up at them with a smile. "kydobi! i've been relieved from my assignments today. do you have the time to uh, well, hang out?" normally followed with 'if thats allowed', auggie stopped himself. the jaguar clearly was friendlier compared to the others, and felt much more comfortable acting more freely around him.

No one was above or below him. Kydobi had realized early on in his life that he was lucky to be born in the body he had. His skills and size were of use to many and for that, Kydobi was grateful. For that, he would never see anyone as above or below him. Everyone was equal because the dice of life was random.

So it bothered him quite a lot when he saw people being cruel to people such as Auggie. Sometimes he wanted to teach Auggie to stand up for himself, but the jaguar feared that it would be a feeble attempt at best ending up in Auggie getting punished.

That was something he could not bare to be responsible for.

It almost made him smile, seeing someone so happy to see him, "Hello August." he said as he dipped his head softly tilted to the right in his usual greeting.


"Glad to see you're free," he squinted at the trees thinking, "Uh... yea I'm pretty sure I'm free. What would you like to do?" It would go a long way for the dog to have a friend. Kydobi no longer cared about keeping up the appearance. He had been promoted for a reason and his refusal to conform was perhaps a strong suit in Jervis's eyes. Just as much as it could be a threat to him and others.

some time ago, august hadn't been entirely so accepting of their fate with the pitt. an unruly pup to tame after departing his mother, august had ben a fighter from the start. it was only until they no longer felt entertained by his antics, when he began to grow into his teeth and bite, that they began to crack down on him. it was fruitless at first. taking the punishments head on if it meant it gave courage to the other slaves but...

one by one they all left him behind. people were getting hurt for associating themselves with the terrier. began to avoid him. calling him foolish for thinking they could overturn the slavers, especially when jervis rose to reign over them. it was unknown who was worse: stryker or jervis...

now he simply did as told. it was an improvement many saw in him for succumbing to his situation. the dice rolled for his life were not in control as he had once thought. a pity, as the younger self of august perhaps would have been a better view for kydobi to see instead of the obedient dog now.

"it's been forever since i've had a good swim. is there anything in the jungle we can go find for that? i can catch fish for you, too. not very known, but i'm a pretty good sushi chef." he joked with a cheesy grin, already leaning in the direction to leave camp. "who knows! maybe we'll find something weird in there. like pufferfish. those things are gross."

Kydobi looked at them in slight confusion. Hunt? Is that not what they used him for day after day after hour after hour every damn week? It seemed odd that in his free time the dog would prefer to spend it hunting.

"Are you sure? I'd hate to have to save us from a crocodile.",he had a humorous edge in his voice, soft smile as he got up. Preparing to follow the terrier where he decided to bound to.


"So August, I've been thinking.... It's very very important for you to be able to defend yourself... I don't think you would incite rebellion but I imagine if you prove how strong and capable of defending the Pitt.... I could convince Jervis to promote you to be a regular member. Or maybe.. my personal slave if he insists on you keeping it?" he would look at them to gauge their reaction, "Don't worry, if that becomes the case. You will be free to spend your days as you please and if any badmouths you are tries to hit you I'll deal with them. But I need evidence to prove your someone worth it."

Hopefully, the dog would agree. In fact the jaguar was sort of waiting to see the delight light up on their fuzzy maw.

an unfortunate habit that auggie had dug himself into, always offering services first despite in the presence of a liberator. it was best to have that habit, though, if any were to survive long. proving worth was just as important as completing tasks. besides from their regular hunting, the terrier did enjoy leisure bouts of it. fishing was definitely one of them.

"crocs? we have those here?" he looked up, narrowed eyes in disbelief. "i've never heard of crocs around here. trust me, they would've tried feeding me to it." auggie grinned, laughing at his own joke. noticing kydobi following, they began to make actual effort in directing them toward where water sources may be.

the marauders next words were only semi-listened to in the beginning, pondering if this was an attempt to make him participate in the war. he had never quite thought about fighting. if he would. if he even should. what would they d if slaves fought their freedom-fighters? abandon them? it was the first thought to come to mind...

but then he continued to go on. becoming an actual pittian. leaving the slaves quarters and excelling beyond them. for a moment, his heart fluttered. it nearly flew right out his chest before he cut it short. "i wouldn't." august answered sadly, breathing out a sharp exhale. "if i let myself become your equal, then i become just as bad as the others. then i become a slaver. i'll be the enemy's target. i… i'm not looking to be a target." he already was as it is, but at least he knew the devils that roamed the pitt. august knew next to nothing about the typhoon save for their pirate lineage. tanglewood was briefly described as swamp dwellers. and the elysium were fighters for justice. brief summaries but nothing else.

"a personal slave though... to you?" august stopped, looking up at the jaguar with a new lightened expression. he was confident in kydobi's promises to him. he had acted on them before already while owing him nothing. "i… well, i suppose if jervis allows it. what would you want me to do? just live amongst everyone? no chores? oh! would i get a bed, too?"

his excitement raised with each question, leaning up on their toes almost unable to contain it.

The large feline was initially not met with all the excitement he was expecting. Eyebrows crinkled in slight surprise as he sat down, slouching to look at the terrier.

Kydobi flattened his ears against the head as Auggie seemed to reject the offer of freedom. Instead preferring the more.. subtle route to such. Their reasons for it were all too familiar. Being an average Pittian put a massive target on your bag, a heavy and draining target that Kydobi was aware of everyday.

"You're smarter than they would like to admit August.", exhaling he straightened his posture, raising his head to look at whatever was in front of him to think. It was a smart move for Auggie, the protection and the freedom of those above him minus the enemies, "Well you can have whatever you'd like. A bed to sleep in, a friend or more. A mate. Children, who I would happily protect might I add, and all the food you can consume. You would only be a slave by title, not lifestyle. But regardless to whoever asks, you are my friend."

They got excited now, however their words were to real for Kydobi. Too honest about their reality. So the excitement the jaguar had been hoping to ride off had passed him in his grave mood.


"I'll talk to Jervis shortly.", eyes returned to Auggie, a soft smile, "What else would you like to do?"

while august would have felt bad for underwhelming kydobi, they still stood with their opinion. he knew kydobi would understand it, even if it was hard to swallow. august had already known he didn't want to be one of them for a long, long while. and when he was at his lowest, knowing his freedom could be quenched but just possibly asking jervis, he still wouldn't. it would be wrong. to turn his back on those he had sworn to help. not only himself.

he couldn't help but chuckle at the others comment. "smart? i like to think so. who knows, maybe i act the way i do so they underestimate me." his voice held a mischievous glaze over his words, a smirk on his maw. at the promise of having pretty much... freedom, though, with just the title? maybe that felt a little more comforting. august was aware that some of the slavers were more gentle on their personals. giving them shelter and food. sometimes extending to protection. though kydobi offered more. something august only wished to have.

"friends? i consider you a friend. you and gael; he's rather nice to me. his little girl too." he hummed, feeling a fuzzy, elated buzz through his bones.

"oh! could you teach me some tricks? you said i need to defend myself. i might not be as big as jervis, especially not you, but maybe you could help me with defensive moves?"

Kydobi smiled, "Perhaps so August." it was a nice idea to think that their was someone so willing to allow others think less of him for the sake of being underestimated to their advantage.

They would ask him for advice. Kydobi took a moment to reply. He had to think, Auggie was a much different creature than himself. So tactics would be very different from Kydobi.  Even then those he has trained were not as small as the terrier.

"Ah...", run. Would've been his first thought but even then, "Well, most likely their gonna be larger than you. If that's the case do everything in your power to not let them grab you. Or pin you down. Only run if absolutely positive you can outrun them. Use your size to your advantage, hopefully your quick and your turns can be especially sharp."

Kydobi sighed, [b]"I don't suggest engaging in any offense. Meaning don't start anything. Fight if you have no option. I'm sure when this battle happens they'll be less inclined to hurt you. Pull the slave card. They started this war to save the slaves so they shouldn't harm one"
