[ oh my god this is a lot !! don't worry about matching muse!! <33
"This is Bucky's mom speaking!"
"This is Bucky's dad speaking!" ]
When Buckingham patrolled Sunhaven's territory at dusk, he thought it was going to be a simple, quick patrol. He thought he'd make it to the beach and back without any interruptions- generally this late, joiners were rare. Bucky wanted the patrol to be quick, he still felt uneasy about the incident with the Asset a few days ago. The whole entire incident was throwing the male off of his rhythm. Majority of the time, Bucky is extremely aware of his surroundings- he has enhanced senses that gives him a stronger sense of smell and hearing. But today, being alert slipped his mind- the male wasn't looking for any odd scents and sounds. He was looking at his paws as he trudged his way to the beach, blocking out the world around him.
[color=#ba4a4a]"Well, my my, look how much you've grown!"
A hauntingly familiar voice reached Buckingham's ears, instantly pulling him back into reality.
That voice... He hasn't heard it in years, it couldn't be her. The moment he heard it, he froze in place, his plans to make it to the beach and back abandoned. I just imagined that, He tried to tell himself as he didn't dare to look up, I'm just hearing things.
"I don't remember that fancy leg you got there, when did you get it?"
A familiar masculine voice spoke up this time, which made Buckingham's heart skip a beat.
Could he still claim it's just his imagination? His sleep deprivation? Bucky doesn't believe in ghosts- he thought they were nonsense, they seemed so obviously fake! Maybe it's still just me- He began to think, when his father's voice spoke up again, sterner this time around.
[color=#af4242]"Boy, stop staring at your paws, look me in the eye!"
When Buckingham was a child, he always listened to his parents. He couldn't remember a time where he deliberately disobeyed them. If his father told him to look him in the eye, you bet Bucky's head snapped up with little to no hesitation. Hearing that stern voice again had the same effect on him, his parents taught Bucky to be obedient. Surely his head didn't snap up quickly as it did when he was a kitten. He slowly tore his gaze off of his paws and looked up, eyes widening at the sight before him.
His parents, Sandara & Kensington Barnes, were standing in front of him, a good meter between them. They looked just as sickly as the last time his eyes fell upon them. They were skinny, skinny enough that one can see their bones. They were pure maine coons just like Bucky, but they didn't look nearly as fluffy as they used to be. Their pupils were small, which automatically reminded Bucky of their true death- foxglove. Bucky didn't say a word as he stared at them both, realizing that he could see right through them.
Buckingham hated to admit it, but they're ghosts.
His mother, who has very similar eyes to Buckingham, looked over at him with a soft smile. [color=#ba4a4a]"Hello Bucky dear, it's been a long time," She said with that soft, gentle voice, looking at her son with delight. His father, who Buckingham looks the most like, also looked pleased to see him. Neither of them looked at him with hatred, rather even more love than he remembered.
He... He doesn't deserve their warmth, not after what he did to them.
"Mother... F-father," The words gasped out of his mouth, as the shame grew on his chest, leaving his parents with confused expressions.
