she was resting on some dead tree stump, trying the best to groom herself. the coyote was laying in the sun, fur glistening like golden flakes had been scattered over it, enjoying the weather, when suddenly she heard a noise accompanied by a familiar smell of ximen. how interesting. she could faintly see his form through the foliage and allowed a small smile to slip onto her face.

he seemed to be doing something, that wasn't her problem. she just wanted to absorb as much as sun as she possibly could when the weather was still nice. her fur was fanned out, absorbing all the particles, and she had a wide grin on her maw, limbs stretched out.

Ximen dragged his paws through the swamp as he yawned with both lungs. He kills one deer and makes one bone knife, then that’s it? Actually, today was probably a more productive day than usual. At least he wasn’t down a bone knife after giving his tried-and-true blade to Lucinder.

He stumbled onto Kiara entirely by accident. He’d been looking for a good napping spot away from the noisy village, the usual trails, and away from his usual haunts so nobody could possibly bother him.

“Hey, uhhhhhh… looks like you’ve already claimed this glorious napping spot.” He was almost envious. Wait. No, he was definitely envious. “This is my favorite hiding spot that nobody else in the group’s figured out I use. Guess it doesn’t belong to me anymore.”

His scorpion tail flicked, and he turned his head as if to leave. “But, hey, I’ll leave if you’re busy introverting.”

she watched him approach with a grin, watching something flash in his eyes. almost like jealousy? how wonderful, her greed could match that perfectly. what a pair they were. he said that this was his "favourite hiding spot" and she tilted her head. "well it's not much of a hiding spot if i found it now, is it?" she replied softly, raising her neck slightly. he turned, as if he was going, and she hurried to continue. "i'm not "introverting", as you put it. you are free to join me if you want, i have no qualms. you'd have to lie on the floor though, but there's plenty of sun for both of us to share." this wasn't like her, she never offered to share. she'd always wanted everything for herself. but something was different with ximen. something made her want him to like her.

“Hmm?” The cheetah’s right ear flicked. She didn’t mind…? Sounded like an invitation, even if she suggested he lie on the ground.

Ximen trotted towards the stump, a mischievous gleam in his golden eyes as he ducked his head. The sleepy film over his gaze was, strangely, absent. He didn’t mind sharing a secret napping spot, but he wouldn’t have its best spot usurped.

He attempted to headbutt Kiara’s shoulder to create space on the stump. His horns were mostly useless, but perhaps this was their sole function—forcing a greedy coyote to share. “Scoot over, I’m not sleeping on roots.”

he usually was sleepy but now he seemed alert. that made the coyote shift, curious at the change in his usual demeanor. she wasn't really paying attention to his actions, so the headbutt came off guard and she shifted, blinking in surprise and half blinded by the sun. "why you coy devil.." she murmured, eyeing his horns suspiciously. he told her to move because he wasn't going to sleep on the floor, and she shrugged and moved over a tiny little bit so if he wanted to he'd have to jump almost on her and push her.
