Along the Hawit River system, a tiny pink raccoon had woken up completely alone. Surely after that nap, it had been enough time that Mama came back for them like she said she would've. Scrambling out of the little divot under some leafy plant, they chirped and chittered hoping Mama was nearby and just looking for their napping spot. But when they took a lot around, not another raccoon was in sight and in fact, her scent was staler than before. Their sounds turned sad and whiny, daring to step a little further from their safe spot to look even further. Even the smell of their siblings was old, not one of them was left with the pink one.

The sound of their little stomach growling made them suddenly very aware of the gnawing feeling, momentarily they stopped feeling so scared because they were so damn hungry. They looked around themselves, there were plenty of plants where they were, but nothing that looked...edible. No, none of this was bright blue or round things full of juice. A few bugs skittered around, up trees and under rocks, but those were far too quick for an uncoordinated and sluggish child. The raccoon kit whined, wobbling closer to the sound of running water, maybe something grew there for them.

On the way over, they caught the smell of something nutty. Nose to the ground, they sought out the potential meal, stumbling about until they found a nut half buried in the dirt. Jackpot! Tiny hands dug it up, and they grabbed it up quick between baby teeth. They waddled to the water, taking it in their tiny hands and dunking it in the water. Mama always did that, cleaning her food carefully. The little pink one was much less efficient, their paws were just too small to easily hold onto the nut and the water made it slippery and muddy. What made them really lose their lunch, though, was the BIG fish that splashed the surface and tried to grab it!

The raccoon squealed, falling back and scrambling away from the river, dirt and wood chips sticking to their fur and wet paws. They shook, tears welling in their eyes, looking like they might wail if something looked at it wrong.

Ryosuke had a small habit of wandering off on its own, it seemed. When Ichiro was being too fussy, and Xanti was busy with doctor stuff, and Vale didn't want to play, and Dead Eye was being boring and staring at walls, and Knox was more interested in its chickens than it was in him, Ryosuke was forced to entertain itself somehow. And how, then, did a spidercat entertain oneself?

    By exploring. Obviously.

Finding a pink ball of fluff had not been on its agenda, but it had happened anyway! What had at first drawn the hybrid's attention had been the splashing of the Hawit River. Ryosuke liked to play by the river sometimes; not usually when it was alone, but perhaps it was feeling a little daring today, who knew?

It was by sheer coincidence, then, that Ryosuke arrived just in time to watch a rather large fish leap out of the water and splash the pink fluffball. It watched, curious, as the pink fluffball fell back, squealing. Its ears twitched. So the fluffball was another animal, not a real fluffball! How charmingly deceptive! Ryosuke had thought it was a rather odd ball of yarn!

He pranced forward, suddenly very excited, its tail waving high in the air. To be quite frank, Ryosuke did not think the fluffball was sentient, and so bore no mind towards its emotional state. Cruel then, perhaps, as it loomed above the fluffball, mandibles clicking excitedly as he sniffed and tried to bop it.

"What is this?" Ryosuke muttered, narrowing its four eyes as it stared down at the pink thing, curious and excited. "Ryosuke has never seen an animal like this before. A pet, perhaps?"

graphic gore ★ genderfluid ★ gyrfalcon
From way up in the sky, the gyrfalcon spotted the pink raccoon. Helped that the baby was alongside the river!

“Aye, Ryosuke, whatcha find?!” Vale called down. The gyrfalcon dived, turned up right before hitting the water and circled the spidercat and pink racoon. “Bahahaha!” Vale cackled. Then cackled louder. How many weird children were arriving on the Big Island and who was bringing them?! A spider-cat. A snake-cat. A pink racoon.

Did the mainlanders think cannibals wanted to eat their rejects?! Like, hello, children are long-term investments?! Hardly a snack today, but good labor that churns out work until it drops dead and can feed a half-a-dozen!

“Bahahaha!” Vale was still cackling. It was absurd! Cannibals! Raising! Silly lil babies nobody on the manland wanted!

the leopard cub was so excited as she came bounding into the scene, oblivious to anything other than the fact that there were more littles-- just like her! "don't mind the meany bird, that is vale. they're not mean all the time though, sometimes they bring yummy foods." little miss projected her voice towards the odd little noisy furball, hoping it would at least elicit a response. she pranced over to Ryosuke, hoping to get a closer look at this cute little pink thing.
