it's many, MANY years into the future — maybe 3k19 OR it could be like 2k23 or whatever — where things have gone to shit, courtesy of the government. all thanks to them wanting a new "weapon" to wipe enemy countries, which ended in disaster. the virus [insert hella cool or regular name here] was designed to be put in uncontaminated water (and/or food) and only be transferred to the "host" via digestion. it did work at first. making sure to attack purified water (or food that has been approved) first and people slowly died off like the way they planned. though, its slow and gradual increase on killing its "host" suddenly spiked up and it started to mutate. just like the cells in every living organisms, they are constantly changing, but it's minuscule and not even noticeable. taking about a good month or two later, the virus eventually became airborne and infected everyone by then. nobody left unaffected.
even though there was no hope, there was still an attempt to stop it. muse a was a part of the team of scientists that were forced to come together and make a vaccine. didn't work out too well because it only added to the problem. caused the mutation cells to rapidly speed up the process of multiply and messing with everyone's dna. some were lucky and others were not. those that were “fortunate” received “super powers” or abilities that no average human would possess. these abilities ranging from shapeshifting to telekinesis to even time control. muse a obtained [insert power here] and after a lab accident and freaked out at first, then muse a fled from the project to create a vaccine and seemed to have disappeared from the face of the earth.
now, for those unfortunate individuals that didn't get any powers turned into zombies. horrendously gross creatures that attack anything and everything – including their own species. that's where muse b comes in. poor thing was bitten when going on a supplies run for a group of friend, and went to a far off place to die alone. except fate had another route for them. maybe it was the virus that manipulated his dna or the leak of vaccine in the air alerted it, but they didn't die. no, instead muse b survived and was the first to be immune to the deadly virus.
“the cure.”
as the scientists would say after catching wind about muse b.
it's a race to see who gets their hands on muse b. guess who the lucky winner is? that's right, muse a. and by accident, too. mainly after muse a witnesses muse b get a nasty bite from an extremely mutated zombie [human or animal; idk] and slinks off to tend to their wounds. muse a, not knowing that the other was immune, may or may not attempt to put the other out of their “misery.” but after not killing them [shows very old bite/something??], muse a slowly finds out that other people are looking for muse b [who doesn't know (yet)] and their not so friendly purposes.
not wanting muse b to die, muse a keeps them on the move and eventually becomes very protect of the other. while spending a good amount of time together (maybe a week), muse a shows to muse b their ability of [insert power of sorts] and it helps build a stronger bond between the two.
throw in some fluff with tender moments. [insert butt ton of fluff here] and some angsty bits can be like muse b has no clue the other is a former scientist and learns that others want muse b for certain purposes, and thinks muse a is with them. or muse a gets infected while they get captured by a group and muse b is torn between saving the other or nah.
