Honestly, Vayne should have expected Aphra to lash out, considering the woman tried attacking her during her Entrance Ritual. Then again, Vayne had only retaliated in self-defense; she didn't want to be with Aphra and yet her 'mother' insisted on making her stay. Why exactly? Vayne didn't have an answer to that.

Vayne closed her eyes as she saw Aphra's paw get close to her face, recoiling back as she felt Aphra's claws rip into her skin and fur. Blood slowly started to come out of the wound, with Vayne keeping one eye closed as she looked back up at Aphra, who looked sickeningly pleased at what she just did.
