Hunting down the alligators wasn't something Vigenere thought of, though it definitely wasn't a bad idea. It would make the place a little bit safer for the younger members of the group, in case one happened to stumble out of camp without an adult around. Or if a child wandered into the swamp. But Vigenere wouldn't advise going after the gators, considering how a lot of them were only domestic felines or in a body that was much smaller than the overgrown reptiles.
