He knew that they were probably in so much pain. Every time he thought about it, his heart would twist in his chest, only able to picture the pain on his wife's face and the confusion in his daughter's. She was too young to understand. She didn't deserve to have her father ripped away from her, especially at her age. He wished that, even if it was one last time, he could see her smiling face and know that she was alright.
The thought that the homunculi might go after his family made him freeze--but also strengthened his resolve to get Roy back to Amestris. If he trusted anyone to stop them, it would be him. But they would have to figure out something soon, a way to send him back. He wouldn't sit still until then, not until he was back and able to stop any harm from coming to anyone, especially his family.
He let out a small sigh of relief at his response, though he didn't give it much thought. He didn't think that Roy could have been wrong. "Thank God...if you had died like I did," again, he stops short, not wanting to even say it. It had been traumatic enough for him, and he couldn't imagine how it would have been for Roy. But luckily, it hadn't been the case.
"It was terrible," it was all he said before falling silent.
But Roy's promise quickly perked him up, a hopeful smile growing on his face. The thought that Elisia and Gracia would one day get closure for his death made his chest feel warm. Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes, but he blinked them back, not wanting to worry his friend even further. Even if he couldn't come with him back to Amestris, he trusted him to defeat whatever evil was going on there, and thus save the people.
