But oh well, at least he was getting this task done. Now that he was done being lazy and doing nothing, he planned to go all out. The observatory had always seemed a bit grim to him, and in that regard, the underground area was worse. He shivered when he thought about it.
But Hughes had a job to do, and he wasn't about to back out, or do sloppy work on it. He repeated that in his head as he neared the staircase leading down, delving deep under the ground. Swallowing, he made his descent, a can of paint hanging from his jaws. He'd probably have to make a few trips back to camp to get all his needed supplies, but he just saw it as a way of exercise.
Once he reached the bottom of the steps, he got to work, removing all the old signs and replacing them with the new. He made sure they all looked nice, the lines precise and lettering easy to read. Once he was done with all that, he got to decorating, even doing some cleaning in areas he saw fit (it was...odd to maneuver a broom around as a dog). Eventually, streamers hung down from the walls, and little intricate paintings were drawn and pasted on the walls. Now the old ghastly atmosphere was gone and it looked a lot better, in his opinion.
As he made his way back out, he thought up ways to set up music, wondering if he could get some speakers set up in various places in the tunnels. He wasn't too experienced in such technical stuff, so someone else would probably have to help him.
