the sound of ares' voice is what brought benjie from his enraged stupor, still angry at being called a chicken; something he was most certainly not.
unfortunately it was a little too late, for soon after ares appeared, so did winterhymns. the two boys flinched almost in unison, eyes squeezing together and lips pursing in a way that would have been hauntingly similar had they been able to see their faces; their backs were to the other two at the moment, and as such their expressions wouldn't be seen until they turned around unanimously, ears pinned back against their skulls and a guilty look on their faces.
jojo was the first to speak, scraping the remaining cobweb from his face and fluffing up his fur; not that he wasn't already the fluffier of the two twins. "it was sombrekit's idea!" he yelped, pointedly ignoring his father's presence in a way that said 'if i dont acknowledge him i wont get in troule' and in turn aiming his sentence at ares, backing away and treading carelessly in the yew berries once more.
almost immediately, benjie's own short fur stood on end, his fluffy tail lashing from side to side angrily as he rounded on his twin. "you little runt, i'll get you for that!" he hissed, shooting the smaller twin a vicious glare before whirling around to face win and ares. "it was shieldkit's idea! he said i'd be a chicken if i didn't keep watch!" benjie pleaded, letting one of his ears stand up while the other stayed pinned back, his eyes widening into a puppydog expression. the puppy eyes always worked on win, so maybe they would work this time.
