WHAT A PRIVILEGE IT IS TO LOVE — When Pierce arrived, Jacob thought the situation had passed but then Cry faced him and started talking again. His jaw locked as the tiny creature stalked towards him. Hearing her words, he was quiet for several moments before speaking gently, ”It don’ have ta’ be. But that ain’t gonna stop me from tellin’ ya’ that what you’re doin’ ain’t healthy for you or anyone else. I dunno’ what happened ta’ ya’ but or what you’ve lost but you ain’t the only one tha’s ever lost somethin’. Ya’ think I wear these bandages as-as a fashion statement? Ya’ think I came ta’ Snowbound ‘cause I woke up one day thinkin’ like it sounded like a good idea ta’ walk countless miles ta’ somewhere I didn’t know when my legs don’ work half the time?” While his words could have been accusatory, he kept his voice soft and gentle. He was frustrated but Jacob was used to peope like this. He couldn’t always help but after dealing with Jersey, his Pa, and his Babbo, he didn’t feel only frustration for the tiny bird. It was clear he was concerned for her safety and well-being. He wouldn’t have fixed her wing if he wasn’t. While he was frustrated she was choosing to lash out, he knew there had to be a deeper reason to her behavior. “Sometimes ya’ jus’ lose n’ there ain’t anythin’ ya’ can do about it. N’ it’s awful n’ terrible n’ ya’ don’ think it’s ever gonna get any better. Ya’ find ways ta’ cope, whether they’re healthy or not, n’ tha’s why ya’ lash out at people n’ tha’s why I don’ sleep n’ eat too much pasta. But ya’ gotta move on eventually. Sometimes ya’ just gotta’ admit that ya’ can’t fix things righ’ now but ya’ gotta’ help yourself. So when you’re done throwin’ your li’l pity party or whatever this is, lemme’ know n’ I’ll still be ‘ere ta’ help. I want ya’ ta’ get better. This place might not be home but tha’ don’ mean ya’ can’t get better ‘ere. Keepin’ all ah’ your hurt in n’ pushin’ everyone away isn’ doin’ anythin’ but hurtin’ ya’ but I can’t make ya’ realize that n’ I can’t make ya’ wanna’ do anythin’ about it. Your health is in your hands, er, talons,” he concluded. Jacob wanted her to feel better. He knew what it was like to be angry and bitter but it was never good to stay that way. Just like him, Cry would have to move on from whatever her loss or trauma was. No one could stand being alone forever.
