[align=center][div style="max-width: 600px; text-align: justify; font-family: verdana; font-size: 9pt;"]Family...family is a difficult topic for Melantha. It is the most important thing in her life. She is passionately devoted to her family; this includes her obnoxious siblings and her self-destructive mother. Melantha is the oldest out of her siblings (with the exception of Dearlea, but she's an immature brat so she doesn't count) so she quickly adopted a caring role in the family. When Ma and Pa were gone, Mel was in charge. She made sure everyone was fed and oversaw that chores were completed. And she protected them to the best of her ability. Maybe she was too good at her job, because it is what eventually got her separated from them. The rush of icy water washing over her, filling her lungs, is a vivid memory. Corbett's terrified expression. Relief upon dragging her drowning brother to the riverbank. The sensation of her paw slipping out of Stella's clenched jaws...Melantha still bears the scar where her sister tried so desperately to keep her from being swept away. It was all in vain, unfortunately.
Like most predators, the young cougar is drawn to the sound of voices. Hunter-instincts tell her that food might be nearby, but Melantha knows that it is probably just someone at the border causing a commotion. Must be an important one too, given the amount of excitement permeating the air. She approaches silently, slinking from shadows to the protective cover of a small copse trees. The young female never approaches directly--the paranoia of possible betrayal forces her to take many unnecessary precautions. She does not yet trust these people, no matter how friendly they appear on the surface. "I don't really see the family resemblance," mutters the girl as she appears beside Killua, choosing to stand near him since he is the most familiar out of everyone present. Her comment is not intended to be mean, she is simply perplexed by the notion that family does not have to look the same. Perhaps she is just backwards, since her family of mountain lions lived in an isolated territory to the northeast.
Sagacious olive eyes study the newcomer with interest. She finds him handsome, in that rugged, mature sort of way. Vito is impeccably clean, which is strange for most people who stumble across the border. Melantha does not trust him one bit, but she does her best to conceal it beneath an impassive mask for the sake of Jacob. "Hello," she greets reluctantly. The lovely young huntress is put off by the mysterious air surrounding the stranger. He looks like a person of secrets. Based on the interaction with Jacob, he clearly loves his family, but a love for family does not necessarily make someone trustworthy.
