while hollow's creek probably had no obligation, considering he had come across the typhoon as an effect from the meteors, he did believe it was right to do so. despite ahab's treatment toward him, they had allowed him to stay nonetheless. food and shelter were provided, and it was only appropriate he bring something in return.
he was sizeable compared to some of the other pirates around, it would be best he use that to an advantage. perhaps moving debris too large for some and rebuilding structures that had been damaged or completely deconstructed. maybe it would earn more trust between him and those that were still weary of him as well.
