Ivan was two weeks away from seeing his fifth moon, but he already was aware of how lucky he was in his family. It was almost a slap to his own face. He couldn't understand why he was so out of touch with other people and was constantly haunted by his mind. He shouldn't complain, he has the greatest family one could ever ask for. He knows this, because he's talked to Mercede and he sure is relieved that his father wasn't a war criminal who was burned to death shortly after his birth.
Not much escaped his large ears, that was how he found out that today was Mother's Day. Mother's Day? A jolt went through Ivan's system. He wasn't sure how to love, and he was afraid that one day he'd realize that he didn't love anyone or anybody. That it didn't exist. It was such a difficult thing to love. But Moth, well, he was beginning to have some hope. He decided that he could do something.
Ivan was no engineer. He was creative, but he had difficulty molding that into something real. He was young, so he didn't think that flower crowns were cliche. Ah yes, he was attempting to make a flower crown for his mother. The young cat thought it would make a good gift choice for his mother. He didn't know if his mother felt insecure about her missing ear, but Ivan thought he might give her something that would draw the attention away from what she was missing, and bring out her beauty.
God, what a sop I've turned out to be! He thought as he chose medium pink roses and sat for hours trying to weave them together. His pads were pricked with thorns, but he was so proud when he finished. The bird seemed to realize the importance of the thing and she kept a respectful distance from Ivan. She hopped to her feet when Ivan finished.
He trekked back to home, lingering at the porch. "Mama?" Still a child. He had his gift at his paws (tactfully covering up his scratches) and he was unable to make eye contact with anyone, feeling bashful but thought he just might burst into tears at any moment.
