Anyone who wasn't a hyena was immideately on the bottom of the pecking order. They were lower-class, and more often, slaves. First the Females, then the males, then the slaves. Vathmos didn't have one of her own before she left, but it had been a major crime to kill or harm another hyena's slave. She knew of one male Hyena, Ozz, who was banished for doing so. This xenophobia had made it a little hard for her to adjust to her new clanmates. She couldn't join another hyena tribe, her bitemarks branded her as an outsider and an exiled. Exile from a hyena tribe was to condemn them to a life of loneliness, and that was worse than death. So, she had to stay here. This was all she had.
Vathmos' clan, the Spotted Hide Tribe, was used to dealing with a coalition of lions. The last one they interacted with was Sefu and Abdu. They were trying to steal from them. Abdu had been alone so the patrol decided to take him on. Sheer numbers had overpowered him until his brother showed up. At that point, they had to scatter and runoff. They ended up waiting somewhere nearby later for them to finish eating, then scavenged off what was left.
Finding Wormwood out in the territory did turn her curiosity- she was afraid of him and his brother doing something bad here. It was in a lion's nature to take over a territory, wasn't it? So far, they had proved her wrong, but she wasn't willing to let her guard down yet. So yeah, she followed him for a bit. She wasn't aware of the wind giving her off, and when spooked when Wormwood looked her way. She came out of the underbrush, uttering the little hyena laugh from her throat in a quizzical manner.
"If you're offering... Wormwood."
