✯ — THE GROWN UPS TAUGHT ME TO WATCH AND LEARN

her mind took to his last words first, the pup looking up as he came to her side, "I came here when I was less than a month old. my dad took me out training, away from mum and my other dads. said we were gonna go find my uncle, his brother, and my cousins, his brother's daughter and son, as well. he said that our family needed to get strong, that a war was coming that was going to knock my mother off the throne that mum had held for the king for centuries. that our blue blood would turn purple and finally red again. he ... he was scaring me. I told him that, and that's when my dad changed. he was no longer gentle with me, no longer told me he cared about me. that's when I knew something was hurting my dad way worse than he was hurting me." her ears switched backwards and her muzzle curled. "my dad smelt like sulfur. he reeked of it. it happened after we left our family's lands. when my uncle found me, my mum's brother, he said that we had to run and we couldn't stop running until we reached his territory."
a shake of her body once more, as if to rid herself of the creeping along her pelt that reminded her of fog, her eyes misty with the memories. "ah. you didn'task about that. sorry. right. lesson one -- don't trip.", she murmured, letting her body relax, or rather, forcing it to do so, focusing on her surroundings. "moving forward and onward is the easy part, pushing aside the part that went wrong isn't so easy. I remember it for later, so I can think about it. probably not a good idea."
