He had fled the terrifying grasp of his father only months before, and just as he had seemed to be settling in, the volcano heaved its lungs and coughed smoke into the atmosphere, and spat searing lava over Paradise Island. It was a miracle the Typhooners had managed to flee in time. Junji could only hope they were all okay.
Snowball fights—snow in itself, really—and cabins were new to him. Through his window he had watched those of Snowbound play in the cold white powder, and briefly wondered if he should join them. Of course, he did not; for reasons unknown he simply pulled the curtain back, and returned to his place among the mass of pillows and blankets. It was warm inside. It was safe inside.
He was safer inside.
Eventually, though, he would need to come out. He couldn't live in a place he knew nothing about. For his own comfort, and to ease his conscience, he would eventually need to venture out, explore, and meet the Snowbounders. He just hadn't expected any of them to approach so soon; the angel jumped slightly upon hearing another voice, and quickly turned his head to face the source of the words. Junji's gaze settled on Anael, and remained there as he silently processed what she'd said to him. A joke, a tease; poking fun at the fact that he had not once come outside during the previous week.
The boy managed a small, sheepish chuckle. "Yeah," Junji started. "I mean—no, it's... it's not too bad. You, uh, have a lovely home here..." He stumbled a bit over his words, and turned his head away in embarrassment. His focus returned to the frozen surface of the lake. He pawed at the snow for a few moments, trying to come up with something else to say. He breathed a small sigh. "I'm Junji. You're... the leader, right? Uh, what's your name...?"
