Jaylah thinks that the fact that she has been torn from her home is a shame. She is not surprised, only disappointed. Even before having been invited to the fleet, she had seen many strange things. James T. and others have been transported to other universes in the past. This is nothing new. What makes it difficult is the fact that she is dead, and does not have hands. It is not so easy making weapons or traps without hands, but she will adapt. Like James T. has, perhaps.
She could have stayed with her captain, she knows. The mud is no hindrance to her, and even if she had disliked him, he would have been the first to know if the crewmates she was so fond of had turned up as well. A person such as James T. makes himself known. He is golden, unmistakable.
But she does not. She is not sure why. She does not question her gut instinct as she leaves him there. She walks many, many miles. This world is full of strangers. Jaylah does not know how to talk to them, but she does not want to be alone, either. So many years of solitude have made her disconnected and touch starved. No matter how strange these creatures are, she does not want to be alone. So she will not.
This is why she finds herself here. She is not sure what to think of the desert, not the strange group that resides in it. But stay with them she will. Jaylah does not call out -- she is obvious against her surroundings, her fur such obvious colors. If they cannot see her, then they are fools. So will not announce herself for all to hear as long as she has the ability.
