[div style="margin: 0 auto; width: 65%; font-family: timesnewroman; font-size: 10pt; text-align: justify;"]Jim had never been interested in medicine. In fact .. he was kind of terrified of doctors. He'd never willingly let one besides Bones treat him in his later life. This, of course, was partly due to Jim's allergy issues. Seriously, literally nobody looked at Jim's allergy sheet and it was kind of infuriating. He was allergic to the anti-allergy medicine. (hence Bones' overprotectiveness regarding doctors, too.)
... Learning about how doctors operated here was kind of amusing, and kind of terrifying. On one hand -- Bones would be fucking pissed about this. It was primitive and it was useless, as far as Jim was aware. But Jim wasn't going to rain on their parade -- they definitely didn't have the same technology as the 'fleet, or even just his world in general. .. On the other, Jim wasn't about to let himself be treated with this stuff. At least his allergies to modern(future?) medicines had been documented. God knows if Jim would go into Anaphylactic Shock on some poor doctor using this stuff.
"What's got you worked up?" Jim asked, easily trodding past Aya and the yellow cat, whatever his name was, to look at the page. It was .. a medical book. Yikes. Probably why Aya was offering help. Jim considers this. He does not, in fact, consider that some people may not be entirely literate. ".. Are you having trouble with the medical words? Me too," Jim snorts. He is a liar. He can, in fact, pronounce it all just fine. He was a certified genius for one, and for two, he had a doctor for a best friend.
.. Well. It'd suck to have an untrained medic, regardless if Jim was going to be allowing them to treat him or not anytime in the future. ".. I can try and help too, though," He huffs softly. He seats himself, and decides, what the hell, he may as well spill some of his lifestory to these people, what the fuck does it matter. "I lived with a doctor for a few years. .. And I've always been an unlucky son of a bitch," He snorts, and lets his implication speak for itself. No matter how much Jim avoided doctor visits like the plague, he still stayed in the hospital way more than the average person.
