there were plenty of things you could say about billie, depending on how well you knew her, and what you thought of her. you could call her friendly, as she was an outgoig extrovert, or you could call it fake, surface level. after all, it wasn’t like she ever let anyone in, like she ever got too attached or cared too much. you could say she was funny, if she trusted you enough to know you could take a joke. you could say she was frightening, knowing she’d taken more lives than she could count, that she was raised to be little more than a killer by order.

the one thing you couldn’t say, however, is that billie was lazy. it wasn’t that she was the most productive pea in the pod; in fact, the fem aspired to be lazy. but she’d had productivity drilled into her from infancy, and this aspiration was a more recent development in the huntress. it was only when she deduced that everything was sort of bullshit that she was able to relax. being the strongest, the fastest, the best — all you’d leave behind was a legacy, and she was tired of a legacy of fear. she, like most people, would die eventually; they all might as well enjoy living. billie’s form of enjoyment was little more than a drink and a seat in the sunshine.

unfortunately, old habits always seemed to die hard, and somehow productivity fell under that category. as much as she wanted to sprawl out and catch some rays, there were things to be done and it bothered her on an almost physical level to let things go undone. not to mention that she was new in this group, and frankly, she didn’t want to get the boot just because she wasn’t doing her share.

still, didn’t mean she had to like it.

she’d been told to go on a patrol with “atticus”; she knew him on a superficial level, she knew he was another overgrown feline, she knew his name, his rank. naturally, billie figured bitching could be a great way to bond with this stranger, and few things seemed as dull as a patrol. shit, maybe she could talk him into just ditching and taking a nap somewhere. yeah, a nap sounded nice.

“patrol time,” she said as she approached the male, a light glint of joking on her tone, “let’s save the day by walking the borders.”
