[ COLORATION REFERENCE ; PANDA GERMAN SHEPHERD REFERENCE ; EYE REFERENCE ]
SPECIES : Canis lupus familiaris
— BREED : German Shepherd (purebred)
— HEIGHT : 21 inches at the shoulder
— WEIGHT : About 55-65 lbs?
EYE DETAILS : warm, typically wide brown eyes that are reminiscent of whiskey or gold in color.
— Val's eyes are naturally soft, both in color and shape. Almond-shaped with slow curves to both the upper and lower lids, even doing as little as widening them slightly can give him an almost angelic appearance, though he rarely stoops as low as pulling off puppy eyes. He typically has an alert expression that clearly speaks towards emotion and intelligence. The color adds to the warmth of his features, a moderate amber-brown with distinct golden highlights. In certain lighting, they vary from brown to bright orange, always with flecks of lighter colors.
BUILD : lean and fit but not anything impressive, just solidly and athletically build.
— Though Val is well-balanced and athletic in build, he's smaller than most other animals of his breed. He's longer than he is tall, though the difference isn't extreme. He was lucky enough to avoid most of the breed-related issues when it comes to his body structure. He shows no signs of hip dysplasia or arthritis as of now, though may develop symptoms much later in life. In the same line of thought, he doesn't suffer the way that show-bred German Shepherds would as his family came from working lines. His back is straight instead of sloping, and his legs do not bend at awkward angles. He's well-muscled in a lean way, substantial instead of spindly, and gives the impression of physical agility and fitness in motion and when still. He's not large or powerful, but he's certainly not weak either.
FUR DETAILS : a soft, thick, and very dense coat with a slightly wiry feel to it.
— Unfortunately for the family standard, this is where Val wanders away from what is typical for his breed. The dog's coat is longer than a typical stock coat, though not as long as the incredibly rare long-coated variation. He has a thick, soft double coat of fur, with the outer layer being ever so slightly wavy or wiry, but not enough to ruin the almost cloud-like texture. It's thickest at his shoulders, neck, and chest, and eventually begins to lie flat towards his hips. He does not possess the close-lying texture that is considered desirable. However, it is incredibly dense and insulating. He's never too cold.
COLORATION : short description here, only one line long.
— This is yet another area where Val fails to meet the breed standard. Though his colors are rich and warm, they vary between a golden-tan and light liver color instead of the typical brown and black pattern. The liver sections darken his face and his back, though they also reach to his tail a little bit. The most serious fault, however, would be his white patches. Being what people call a Panda German Shepherd, he has large patches of white all over his body. The largest section wraps around his throat and extends up to the middle of his face. (Other markings are still being decided, please hold.)
— GROOMING & HYGIENE : Honestly, who expects perfect cleanliness in this sort of world? Though Val does what he can to keep himself at least somewhat presentable, constant travel leaves him dusty at the very least. His fur is usually slightly messed up, but not too much. Basically, he leans just a little towards being a mess without being disgusting or disheveled.
— NOTICEABLE FEATURES : Work in progress! Currently, I believe that only his white markings would count, or the accessories listed below.
— ACCESSORIES : He constantly wears a leather dog jacket with this pattern on the back, and carries a worn brown satchel in which he carries medical equipment and a few personal items. Touch this and prepare to be bitten, both of these things matter a lot to him.
