"Dragons?" Oni meowed, rolling the creature's name around in his brain. He was wracking his brain for any memories of dragon lores he had read about in the hundreds of books his mothers had read to him. Well, they could have told him one- Oh, yeah!
With a snicker towards Agathe, Onision began to tell his story, pushing his books away from him so he could sit up. "Alright, I've got a story you'd like about dragons. Come sit, we'll start it now." Oni meowed, his tone softening as he waited for the kids to gather and settle down began he started.
"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful woman, loved by all in her kingdom. She had many lovers, but could never feel happy enough with them. She had claimed her first husband wasn't rich enough, her second wasn't handsome enough, and her third husband wasn't kind enough. Then, she met a prince. The prince of the kingdom, to be exact. He was everything she had ever wanted; Kind, Rich, and Handsome. Ontop of that, he also had the fame and royal status that she had always dreamed of. The woman fell in love with the prince, and tried to court him, but he would never turn her way." Onision's voice deepened as he laid down, his claw tracing the spine of a book as he rested his breath, before continuing again.
"He never looked at her, never felt the same. "but i'm the most beautiful woman in the kingdom! why wont he love me?!" the woman found herself crying to her friends, her voice shrill with agony.
"have you not heard the rumors? they say the prince has fallen in love with a gypsy!" her friend shrieked, obviously happy to gossip about such things.
"if he can't love me, i'll just have to make him love me. i'll have that gypsy killed." the woman stated, before disappearing into a rumored forest- haunted by spirits of the past, and a god. When she met the God, she told him her idea- her plan of killing the gypsy. This enraged the God, for he wasn't one to condone the murder of innocents. So, the God told the woman that if she didn't correct her views, if she killed the gypsy, she would turn into the thing the kingdom most despises."
"Many months had gone by, and the gypsy had been seen with the prince everywhere he went. There were rumors that the prince had plans to propose, but the woman had other ideas. If she couldn't have her beloved prince, she would kill the one who kept him from her. And so, she paid an assassin to kill the gypsy. When the assassin had returned in the dead of night, having done the job, the woman had begun to grow scales. Black scales, as if they were scorched by the sun itself. The God wasn't joking- she was slowly turning into something the kingdom had feared- a dragon."
"One night, the scaled-skin woman had walked into town, hood over her head. She had heard the gossip about the prince mourning, angered at the assassin which had killed his soon to be fiance. The woman was enraged. Why couldn't he just let the gypsy go? Didn't he know she loved him? Why couldn't she have him? Taken over by rage and envy, the woman had transformed into a dragon, burning down the town square to ashes, killing many."
"When the prince had recieved news of a dragon in the kingdom, wrecking havoc, he had a plan put together immediately. He would slay the dragon himself, and put the dragon's head on a pike outside of the kingdom for trespassers to see. He mourned his beloveds death, and this was a way to ensure it would never happen again. So, riding off to battle, the prince steeled himself with his legendary sword and armor."
Once he arrived, the prince held his sword out, shouting "Dragon! You have killed enough innocents! The kingdom will cheer when your death has come!". This enraged the dragon, and the battle began. It was long, most of the prince's army was destroyed by the dragon herself, but she was terribly wounded towards the end. Her wings had been mangled to no return, and with a mighty heave of his legendary sword, the prince beheaded the dragon. Those who were safe from harm had cheered for the safety of the kingdom, but the spirit of the beautiful woman had never passed on."
Onision leaned closer, a grin on his face. "Some say that the spirit of the woman lurks in an old Observatory, condemning those who felt the same envy as she did- jealous of their ability to continue living, while she was cursed to live in the afterlife." He made up the last sentence, of course, but who cared? He could scare the kids enough to behave- enough to not get envious- hopefully.
"The end. Want another?"
